Default Remote Session question

I shared a Pro Tools session inside a Dropbox Shared Folder with a musician, but when he imported session data the waveforms were blank and no sound plays. (The wav files do show up in the clips window, but even if dragged to tracks there is still no waveform visible and no sound plays.)

However, if he manually drags the wav files from the Dropbox Audio folder right onto a track in the open session, it then works.

Anyone know what's going on here and how to fix this?

Thanks.

The wave files have unique ID and the files can be relinked

Thanks Janne, but might you know why this is happening? I do this with many other players and orchestras and this hasn't happened before.

And, how do you relink? Thanks.

I don't transfer via DropBox so cannot say if it changes something

...but as for relinking, download PT Reference Manual and search for "relink missing audio"

Thanks, it has to be a Dropbox Shared Folder issue. I will try relinking.

Update: so it looks like with my session that the musician is opening, the Task Manager can't find the wav files, even though they are in the Audio Files folder. So I did a "Save Copy" of the session and included the audio, and sent that, but it still can't find the audio.

But, if he drags the wav files from the Clips window onto the tracks, everything works. Very odd.

The player called Avid tech support but they couldn't explain why it's not working.

Can't figure this out...

It's possible Dropbox is losing some metadata or something. Try zipping the session folder first.

The recipient also needs to learn how to use the relink function. If you open a session and audio is missing, the first thing to pop up is the relink window.

Yes, I did zip the entire session, but no luck.

I will have him try delinking.

Thanks.

Default Remote Session question

Two other things come to mind.

Make sure the recipient isn't changing the relationship between the session file and the audio files folder.

Odd characters in drive/path names can have an effect. Make sure the recipient doesn't have any weird characters in the names of the drive and sub folders where the session folder resides.
