Does PT10 Sync Accurately to MTC ?
Hi,
Just wondering if anyone can tell me if I can accurately sync PT10 as a slave to MTC in the following manner. Feed LTC SMPTE from an an audio track from Studio Vision Pro to a Midi Timepiece AV which converts it to MTC. The MTC is feed to PT10 to sync to. (I've tried syncing PT10 to Studio Vision's MTC but the sync drifts after a minute or so.) Thanks in advance for any thoughts. John Ertler |

I take the wordclock out of the MTP and send it to the PT interface.

Re: Does PT10 Sync Accurately to MTC ?
It's weird that you're drifting with MTC since it sends messages so frequently. Never had a drift issue syncing my MPC. Are your framerates matched?

Re: Does PT10 Sync Accurately to MTC ?
MTC will not change the speed of a DAW which is driven by it's clock.. use a synchronizer which feeds MTC and clock to Pro Tools.

Re: Does PT10 Sync Accurately to MTC ?
What he said. Most MTC situations are "lock & release", so if there isn't a common clock, something's going to drift.

However when I connect wordclock from the MTP or the 888/24 to the 003, PT says it is "invalid" and reverts to internal sync. The 003 also rejects the SPDIF from the 888/24 as "invalid" also, but accepts the SPDIF from my Roland XV5080. John |

Yes, framerate is 25fps and sample rate 44.1k on both.

Can you suggest which synchronizer might be suitable ? |

Re: Does PT10 Sync Accurately to MTC ?
For your computer 2 which can't accept a SynchIO.... probably the MOTU Digital Time Piece... even though it has an issue using WC/LTC, it's the only device I can think of... if you can find one.

Re: Does PT10 Sync Accurately to MTC ?
here's how I sync My second protools rig and it's accurate to the sample:
I have 2 protools rigs, one is running on my MBP with CPTK and a presonus firestudio lightpipe interface, my second is on a G5 with an HD2 ACCELL system with 2 digital 192's + a 96 I/O. My Hd rig now operates as my dubber if needed, my video playback for DV video etc...and my main monitor system, audio being supplied to the HD rig via the MBP with a presonus firestudio lightpipe interface. This set up works flawlessly and is totally in sync! No need for any sync peripheral. not only does it sync up I have full Midi Machine control capabilities, so when I click, scrub, slide etc.. anywhere in protools on the MBP the TDM system follows suit! The digital outs of the Presonus supply wordclock to the Digital 192's via lightpipe that's the key to maintaining sample sync. No need for old fashioned LTC. Setting up a Network MIDI Session With a Dual Computer Configuration we can use Apples MIDI network feature to send MIDI via the Local Area Network. This setup does not require any additional MIDI hardware. First configure your LAN so the 2 machines can communicate and see each other on the local network. Contact your Systems Administrator for assistance. Then on your ProTools machine: 1. Open Audio Midi Setup in your Utilities folder. Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > Audio MIDI Setup 2. In the MIDI Devices tab, double click the Network Icon to open the MIDI Network Setup window. 3. In the MIDI Network Setup window: Click the + sign under My Sessions to create a Network MIDI session. The default name is Session 1 and check the Enabled box. 4. Under Who may connect to me: select Anyone. 5. On the VoiceQ Machine repeat steps 1 - 4 above. When you have added your session and enabled the checkbox, it is important that you name the sessions the same name, the default is Session 1. 6. Under Directory you will see the Pro Tools Machine, select it and click Connect to connect to this machine. Note: If you do not see the Pro Tools computer listed in the directory your LAN may not be set up correctly. Consult your System Administrator and make sure the 2 computers are on the same local network and can see each other using Bonjour. 7. On the ProTools Computer in the Live Routings section, select the session you previously named in the top menu as the destination: Now continue with the setup using the appropriate chapter for your version of Pro Tools. Note: When you are using MIDI over the network configure the Pro Tools preferences to use the Network Session 1 port you have just created as the destination for ALL MTC and MMC connections.
