Tutorial how to render your PT5 session useless
Open your old PT5 session, select unused > delete, select all, hit compact, hit OK. Pro Tools will compact all your audio files and hang in the end as it will be unable to save the session as it was originally saved in older format session file and all you can do is force quit PT. Now your old session file will not recognize your audio files anymore and you are pretty much screwed.
Only way to fail this otherwise easily successful destruction of your session is to immediately save the session file in new format after opening it up, would be nice if PT would suggest it first thing after opening old session file!! |

With old format sessions or even just sessions I get from other studios... I always always create a new session on first open (or just use Import Session Data) to avoid potential oddities.

Re: Tutorial how to render your PT5 session useless
Yes yes, still it should not be so easy to kill a session this way. There is no indication that the session is old if you don't memorize the different session file icons etc, it opens up just fine. You must know to look for this but people are sometimes in a hurry. Someone can easily end up in this situation like I did surfing old harddrives. I think PT should open a window after opening old session offering a "save as" as a first thing, not as a last thing then when you try to close the old session.
