Default How do I work with midi after grouping it in 7.4?

I posted this one other time and got little response as I couldn't explain it right but now I think I have it.

1) I write some midi blocks into a stereo virtual instrument track
2) I'm happy with the 4 bars and thus group it so I can duplicate it
3) Once grouped however the midi background on the track (the grid) appears to turn to a regular audio looking background so I can't edit the midi anymore, almost like it turns it all to audio
4) Even when I do ungroup or ungroup all, I can't get it back to midi to edit it
5) End up starting a whole new midi track and never group anything on the fear I won't be able to touch anything, tedious and frustrating but works.

Any advice?

It sounds like you are simply viewing the track in region mode not notes or velocity. Have you tried setting the track to "Notes"? This can be set from the Edit Window just under the track name.
