Pro Tools 11.1 Import Audio from external HD

Since the upgrade to 11.1, whenever I've tried to import audio into a session from an external HD, Pro Tools freezes and I have to force quit.

Similarly whenever I try and preview audio from an external drive in the import window, it also freezes without playing any audio.

The feature worked fine prior to the 11.1 update.

Importing & previewing from the Mac HD works fine, the error is only from external drives.

I have tried with multiple drives and also accessed the drives outside of Pro Tools and they seem to be working fine.

Any ideas?

The drives I've tried (and both have worked fine in the past) are ExFat & "MS-DOS (FAT32)".

I've also just tried trashing preferences, and the problem still exists.

I see. Well, a recent thread suggests that there may be issues with drives formatted differently than the recommended Mac OS Extended (Journaled), but I don't have a definitive answer on this topic.

Yeah, I noticed that, but I find it odd that I never had the issue with 11.0.x

It can see the drives and the files through the import window too, it just freezes when I try and do something with them.

Sadly I need the drives formatted so I can read/write on PC and Mac.

Unfortunately, 11.1.1 doesn't fix the issue.

Problem still exists in 11.1.2 sadly.

After reading "Pro Tools now recognizes Finder folders that contain a forward slash "/" in their name. (PTSW-191175, PTSW-190625)" I was hoping this may have been my issue, but no luck.

I had to abandon 11.1.2 and go back to 11.0.3 to get my work done.

My problems were with an Xsan. I hope we can expect some resolution because my entire department works on the Xsan, and I've been able to work on it since we installed it in late 2011. All Pro Tools versions since then have worked great.

I can work, but no waveforms are generated. 11.1.2 attempts to calculate them but hangs on the calculation. Any actions such as Drag from Browser, Import Audio from Movie, etc will freeze Pro Tools requiring not only force quit, but hard restart of the machine.

Wouldn't it be easier to follow the guidelines? In this case, format HFS+ (journaled, case-insensitive) if you use a Mac
