Default Crackling DB-33

When I play back a midi track I created a while ago with a key part re-routed to the DB 33 that came with Protools 8 I hear a crackling noise. I only hear it on playback though, not when Im playing. anybody have anything similar or any thoughts on why it might be happening?

Try reducing the velocity in the MIDI performance track.

The MIDI volume info from PT7 does not translate well to PT8 unless the MIDI volume data was written to the track. Try reducing the MIDI volume of the track in question in PT8 to around 64 or so.

You may also need to increase the buffer size. I've found the DB33 crackles at the same buffer setting where other VIs seem to be fine...at least on my system.

Question Re: Crackling DB-33

I posted on this same DB-33 problem a few days ago, but none of the advice I got in that thread worked (including higher H/W buffer size). I also contacted Digi Tech Support (no answer yet).

Meantime, thanks Will Russell and TOM@METRO for the new suggestions! I'll try reducing the MIDI volume and the MIDI velocity and see if that helps.

Here's my previous thread on this topic:

Unhappy Re: Crackling DB-33

Well, I reduced the MIDI volume, and that didn't work. I reduced the MIDI velocity, and that didn't work. Still crackling.

The crackles are most noticeable when the note changes, or when the mod wheel is changed. When a note or chord is held, there aren't crackles.

Well now I'm getting crackling. I have a basic midi drum beat going thru Expand with two acoustic gtr tracks grouped together. I'm getting crackling on play back thru the headphones bus sent to my Rane HC6. Doesn't seem to matter what bus I use. I have low latency off and buffer set to 32. Increasing to 512 and using low latency reduced the crackling somewhat but I'm still hearing it (thru the 002r phone out) as low latency mutes the bus on record.

Mystery. I'll keep playing with this, however all serious recording has come to a screeching halt.

I duplicated another session exactly and re-recorded everything in the order I did the last one. No crackles. The only thing I did notice... with the one that had crackles, I recorded the acoustic on two grouped tracks that were set to "ticks" instead of "samples" ...would this matter?

Again the only time I hear the crackles on the 1st one is when monitoring thru the headphones bus (as was set up from a digi template).
