Default new mac mini->harddriveFW800->mbox2pro???

Will this work? New Mac Mini->FW800 Port Connected to OWC HD->Then Mbox 2 Pro at the end of chain Connected to the FW400 Port? I've read that the Mbox 2 Pro should be at the end, that way if it goes south..the external drive will remain static.

I've done some reading on the forum, and it seems that this is acceptable? This config will work if the Mbox 2 Pro is at the end of the chain and I will not have to buy a FW800 to FW400 cable because the OWC drive has the FW400 Port on it..and the OWC drive can connect via FW800.

I've also read that this will sync the system to FW400 bus speed across the board? Please correct me if I am wrong? I would not want to ruin, or disrupt any data or hardware parts by connecting anything improperly. Thanks in Advanced!

P.S. Is this officially supported?..and how many of you have tried the various Mbox 2's available and have noticed any difference in quality of sound from preamps, latency..etc?

I could never get my Mbox 2 Pro to work at all when I had a FW800 drive connected to my Mac. I don't know why thought, my 003 works not problem like this.

In theory it should work, but you might wanna get a firewire 800 external high speed drive to use as your recording drive.. I've found that I have issues if my system drive and my recording drive are the same.. But I'm also working on an antiquated PPC G4 running 10.5 and had to get firewire 800 PCI just to get the MBOX 2 Pro to even see the computer.

Has anyone had success with this setup? Running PT's 8cs2 and 10.5.7? OWC FW800 and a Mbox 2 Pro.

Hmm..so judging by responses so far. Sounds like I will need to connect the Mbox 2 Pro to the Mac Mini Via FW800 to FW400 cable->connect the OWC Hard Drive to the Mbox 2 Pro Via FW400.

Otherwise it will not work?

:bump:

Purchased a FW800->FW400 Cable. This is how I am going to route things:Mac Mini FW800 Via Conversion cable to Mbox2 Pro->OWC(TI923)FW400 External Hard Drive

I realize that this is not the ideal setup..because I've read to have the interface last in the chain, but my external hard drive has only One FW400 port. Which means I can only connect it at the end.

I did some more searching and found that digi officially does not support FW800 daisy chained with the Mbox 2 Pro. So I figure if I use this configuration, I will set the speed to FW400 across the board and hopefully be successful.

I apologize that I keep pushing this up, but I have yet to see a response from someone whom has had success using this set up. It is really important to me to know if anyone has had any luck.

So please, if you have done it this way with any Mac and been successful(and had no issues what so ever)...this information would come in handy before the investment into a Mbox 2 pro is made.

Thanks again!
