Default Re: Carbon vs Apollo

There are two versions, according to this page.

https://avid.secure.force.com/pkb/ar...n-Requirements

Model Serial Prefix Compatible Pro Tools Versions
Pro Tools | Carbon ENENG Pro Tools Ultimate 2020.11 (or later)
Pro Tools | Carbon ENESI Pro Tools | Ultimate 2021.10 (or later)
Pro Tools | Carbon Pre ENERS Pro Tools Studio, Ultimate 2022.10 (or later)

but what the differences are is not clear. Something substantial enough to mean different versions of firmware are needed though...

Since the custom "AVB" is implemented by the Pro Tools software for the Carbon, guessing that's a NIC chip in the hardware compatibility issue (ie, the SI model needs 2021.10 to talk to the newer part used.)
The divide would have happened in 2021 anyway and this is the press release from Nov 2020 (so from the beginning):

Personally not happy with Alto Music, I bought a unit described as new, but it had obviously been opened with some of the packaging missing.

I've had good dealings with them (even on the other side of the country.) I'd contact them to have them make it right (replacement or a discount.)
I once had a piece of gear ship with an extra Ultimate license and they said keep it (which, quite frankly, when I sold it, covered the cost of the actual gear.) I think there's a major disconnect between their sales dept and their shipping manager. But they've always come out on the side of the buyer.

I bought mine from them as a demo, and it came in the right box (I think) with everything. I usually buy my PT yearly license there because they do the Alto Bucks thing.

On my Carbon, I got more money off because it was a repack. It came in at $1750 or so with taxes, etc.

I would call them up.

Considering this Alto deal for $1999 for one of our sound design/edit rooms. The listing on Alto now states it as a refurbished unit. Contacting them via text, they state the same thing about these being early versions with only 24 bit converters. Does anybody know if there is an appreciable difference in sound between the 24 bit and 32 bit versions? Is it just a headroom difference?
