I've seen quite a few problems with large drives. It seems that these may not be as reliable as under-80gig-drives. This is a feeling due to what I see with my customers and not a scientific, proofed analysis.
I wouldn't go above 80gigs.
Did you try a benchmark test?

hmmm? did a benchmark, came back at the top of his class..maybe partition to 3 40 gig drives/ or just stick with an 80. the 80 on the ata bus screams.

thanks

I had this problem for several months. I, too, have a 120 gig drive and started having problems with bouncing to disk a little while after setting up my system. I did searches on it and many people had this problem accompanied by very long threads and I never found out why. I also noticed the bounce handler could not keep up only with certain sessions. I figured out why about two weeks ago.

Now, I'm not sure if this is obvious or not, but on the sessions where I could not bounce to disk I had Absynth(Native Instruments Software Synth) inserted on an aux track. Once I took it out everything worked fine(as well as overall increase in Pro Tools performance). This may only be an issue with Absynth as it's the only softsynth I can vouch for, but maybe not. Sooo, if you don't have a softsynth inserted on an aux track in these sessions you're having problems with, then nevermind, but this problem may be happening to others so I hope some become aware. I'm glad I am. Hope it helps you.

Mike

Hello,

Try moving the drive to the built-in ATA bus on the Mac. We don't test or support ATA cards and its possible that may be your problem.
