OK everybody will be glad to know I just got off the phone with BlackLion Audio and they are going to be offering an upgrade to the Thunderbolt HD Native box. This upgrade includes an advanced volume knob with a white dot and a chrome nut for the headphone jack. They estimate the upgrade backlog is likely to be a few months once the Thunderbolt units start shipping, upgrades will cost $499 per box.

Darryl

(Look if I owned one the damn headphone knob would have a dob of white paint on it by the end of the first day. I hope that is a photo of a prototype and Avid will change that knob. But again none of this is that critical. The critical thing is Avid has a Thundebolt HD solution. And a lot of the usability/ID things they did well - small box, not fan, bus powered, has rackmount story, extra headphone jack was a nice thought, etc.).

And just to correct myself (and maybe others), the HD Native Thunderbolt headphone volume knob does have a white indicator dot. It did not look like it did in the very first photos I saw but it's showing up in lots of recent photos/videos of the box.

It shows in Russ's unboxing video. The one we've been seeing was probably a pre-production demo model or sales tool.
