Advise on M-board & Chip set
I am running an Athlon 1Ghz T-bird that is just over a year old, with 640 megs of ram. It is an Oxnard Athlon VIA KT133 board. It has always been a great board for me and I am currently running it for just audio with a seperate hard drive ( 7200rpm )....
As far as I can tell it runs ok. It gets a little sluggish when I lay down about 7 or more demanding Waves plug-ins on variouse traks like the R-verb, L1, C4.... My problem is that I am new to DAWs and am not sure if my machine is ok, or if I should up-grade. I also don't know what the best board/chip combos for Athlon or Pentium are. I do know that I like Athlon better. So any how, I need some advanced user advise on all of that. Thanks a lot, Carl |

Re: Advise on M-board & Chip set
Carl,
Your chipset was the first Athlon chipset used with the Digi001 in the summer of 2000. If it works, why change it right? Not sure what your motherboard can handle in the processor department, but when Windows XP support comes, you may want to consider an XP processor 1800+ or better and one of these motherboards. Best Athlon motherboards and chipsets: AMD 761 chipset: GA7DX GA7DXR A7M266 KT266a chipset: A7V266E Allen |
