Default How to remove hum simply?

Pro Tools newbie for the most part. I've searched online for a simple way to remove background hum in Pro Tools and I either find ways to do it from 8 years ago on old technology, or highly technical directions for advanced users.

So.

How do I simply remove hum in Pro Tools? In this case, it's an air vent in an office setting creating a loud hum.

I just upgraded to Pro Tools 12.4.0. I'm working with exported .omf files from Premiere Pro. I'm on a Mac.

Thanks for your time.

Basically you've got notch filtering or spectral repair. You can do notching with the free stuff that comes with PT, spectral repair (what you really want) isn't free. Google Izotope RX.

There's a number of different audio restoration plugins and software available out there. Check out:

Izotpe RX5 Plugin Pack

Waves Restoration

Sonnox restore

SoundSoap 5

And Acon Digital Restoration suite, but their website seems to be offline at the moment.

All of these companies have free demo licenses so you can try them out to see how well they work for you.

Thanks! I'm going to try the izotope plug-in. Surprised that something like this isn't included in Pro Tools. I would think it would be a common problem.

And therefore a profitable one.

Depending on number/amount of data/files asking nicely someone who has those tools might be an option, hint ;-)

Noise removal is what you're looking for, most hum repair tools are designed for removing 50 and 60 Hz AC line noise. That won't cut it for HVAC

really tricky to do this without affecting the intended program audio. I have used up the iZotope full demo bundle. I would help you do this if I have the tools.

The Waves restoration thing would work fine because the noise would be quite scattered for spectral repair if it was any noise besides the hum. Waves x-noise let's you sample the hum. You want to record a few seconds of the offending noise by itself. Just use a long count in.
Once X-noise has the sample, it will only subtract those frequencies. Be very careful how much you use. Listen to the high treble and punch. You can adjust the treble filter threshold so it is not affecting any treble if there is no high his coming from the ducts. Use it on the individual tracks in proper measure. You should strip silence too, unless it's a live band recording and all the mics are picking up ambience from everyone else. I never liked the x hum plugin that much.
