I no longer have a vested interest in this but...

option 2 seems like a no-brainer.

As long as I could still have the window open in sessions I would applaud whatever choice but to lose any of the integration at all would be a deal breaker for me...its why I picked the Eleven/PT10 set up I have now.
Nice to hear things are being looked at either way!!

its' sad that avid is now "thinking" about doing something that not only should have been done long ago, but some new user is already doing.

Oh boy, here we go again! Sorry, but at this point I'll believe it when I see it! Seems to me we were at this same point with Avid months ago for a #2 idea!

This is an interesting point... perhaps Avid should just release the SysEx and library protocols so that guy can refine his product. And focus on other improvements. I doubt anybody cares whether the solution is "official" or not, as long as it works...

Also, I must admit I am rather confused why it has to be "option 1 or option 2". Why is both not possible? Is it because it's twice the workload?

Both are possible. This is pure speculation but perhaps what's being considered by Avid is primarily when and if Eleven Rack is dropped from future Pro Tools. It seems obvious if Eleven Rack is not further developed Avid would drop it from Pro Tools functionality. Avid as a company doesn't pause on a decision, they've gone full on in the past.

Interesting speculation on your part there AvidEditor! You might indeed be on the mark with this one!

Eleven Rack is here to stay and one of Eleven Rack's core functionalities is embedding rig settings for recall in Pro Tools tracks. Even if Eleven Rack Editor is hosted outside of Pro Tools doesn't mean it's days are numbered. Disk Caching is hosted outside of Pro Tools, it just means that Pro Tools can run leaner and hopefully meaner.

To me this is very encouraging and shows that Avid is still very interested in the continued success of the Eleven Rack.
