Default I own PT11, how can I get PT12?

Hi,

I own native versions of PT 9, 10 and 11 on my Avid account and ilok2.

How can I get PT12? I contacted Avid, but they will not sell me just a new PT12 license, they told me to upgrade to a perpetual or subscription license of the newest PT and then I would get PT 12 as well.

I think Avid does't allow transfers of used PT12 licenses, is that correct?

Otherwise I would have to go with Avid's upgrade plan.

Why would you want to do anything other than upgrade? It’s going to be your cheapest option.

Also, you’ll get to keep v10 and v11 as your upgrading from an older version.

Why do you want Pro Tools 12? When Pro Tools 2019.5 is such a wonderful release, largely delivering what we all wish Pro Tools 11 and 12 had been able to for plugin processing.

Whoops!

I thought the OP actually meant 2018/2019 etc.

Agreed in that there’s zero point going to v12. But, I’m now curious, you can still upgrade from v11 to the latest version right?

Mmm,

Avid’s policy on expired plans is clear (http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/e...-Upgrade-Plans) ... basically anybody can reup for the $299 reup... but what if you were never on a plan?

But it seems for folks never on plans 10/11/12 upgrades are still covered by the $299 reup. At least that is what Sweetwater and others still claim on their website. https://www.sweetwater.com/insync/pr...upgrade-chart/

The OP could always ask Avid support... ah but now going around in circles.

I guess you guys are right, I should probably just upgrade to 2019.

Yes Avid allows me to upgrade from PT11 to 2019 for $299.

What about local music stores that offer subscriptions at a lower cost. Does that effect reinstatement's?

Not if it’s a genuine subscription with re-up (but you would find out quickly if it is a scam).

But the average dope at Guitar Center or similar is unlikely to know what they are doing. The easiest way of getting a “bargain” upgrade is for somebody to sell you the $99 renewal not the $299 reup+renewal. And then good luck getting a refund.

If one reseller is offering a deal it’s likely they all are as they likely come from Avid. I would stick with larger resellers like Vintage King or Sweetwater. Who have staff who should know what they are doing.

There is an advantage of buying online through Avid with future automatic renewals being easier to just do. But if you need to talk to folks etc, the big resellers May be better.
