Not seeing any problems with those specs. I'm not however familier with that board. If its got the VIA 6308 FW chip you should be aware its not working with Protools (or at least not on the ASUS boards) a Digi approved FW card solves the problem. There have been some reported issues with the Gigabyte boards with the P35 chipset and Samsung SATA2 drives-as far as I know the P965 is not affected by this. Just a general heads up.
Hey Sunburst,

Thanks for the reply. There only appears to be 2 qualified 1394 cards. Am I correct??

May not be available in Australia.

Cheers

Willo

Congrats on finally gettin' your quad movin Mykhal.....you've been waiting patiently since I built mine last May. It's great to see this thread finally stickified, good job helping sunburst maintain results here.
My quad's been rock-solid since I got my 003 in July...just updated to 7.4, no problems so far. Lots of power here now, using Structure, Eleven, Strike , BFD ,TL Space, Ozone...lots of cpu-hungry plugs....it's great!!!
thanks 77pro. yep, finally got her started. put everythin' in place except the mobo last nite. that'll have to wait 'til the weekend. glad to know your quad is performin' as designed!!! i'll keep you cats posted over the weekend

how are you likin' 7.4??? think i should go there instead of 7.3.1 which i'm currently on???

I'm likin' 7.4.....there is a bit of a performance hit as per some of the other threads, but I haven't actually re-done a dverb to see how much for me personally. My track counts aren't usually that high, and the quad gives me more power than I need anyways, so if some of it gets soaked up with 7.4 , big deal. EA works great...my only bitch so far is losing the shortcut for resizing track height.....which I used a lot.
Anyways.....carry on with your new build and I'm sure we'll see some results soon !!!!

I would go with 7.3cs5 so you can enjoy the performance increase. Once you suitably awed ( and have made a image )You can install 7.4 and dig that. And you should still have a little bit of power left. If we ever get Elastic Pitch oe ADC we may need Shans 8 Cores

Wasent there a link to the hotfix needed for 7.4 on the first page of this thread? I looked all over for it last night and couldnt find it any where, not even from microsoft. I wound up doing what I really didnt want to do. Microsoft update. I couldnt figure out which one so I installed all of them.

Uncle Monkey there was a link. I still have it but took it down because apparently the initial patch has been changed to a new KB patch number and the original patch may have had a minor security issue so I pulled it just in case. Hopefully I will have a new link up soon. It's not going to hurt to have your machine updated.... Digi is writing for fully patched machines. You might want to run MSconfig and make sure that there are no new services running for some gunk like" Xbox360 Media Center Extender Updater" or that kind of thing.

I just noticed you got a sticky for all your hard work SUNBURST. Congrats!!!! My computer is rockin hard man. Thanks again. It was nice the other day when I had REASON rewired into PTs open and I was on the internet and I was burning some music to disk all at the same time and in CPU power heaven.

Oh. I'm in the market for a laptop that I can go on a payment plan that will run PTs but its really for my mobile DJ stuff. Thinkin about a DELL. My first computer was a DELL and it has done very well for me for 5 years. My lady is using it now that I am quad happy. I'm off to the Best Laptop thread now. I love this place.

Hi, Please tell me if this isn't the right place to post.
I will upgrade my trusty AMD 64 system for the computer I plan to build listed (so I can comfortably use 7.4), but I want to know what you think. I will have my local computer guru help me, but he doesn't know anything about PT.

Gigabyte Case Poseidon
Asus P5K Deluxe Wifi-AP, s775, P35
INTEL Core 2 Quad Q6600, 2.4 Ghz
Corsair, 2048Mb TwinX DDR2 1066 Kit Dominator, 2x1Gb, PC8500, 5-5-5-15, EPP, alu heat spreader
(should I get 2 or wait if I need the second?)
Graphics card: Asus, Geforce 7300GT Silencer, 256Mb DDR2, DVI,

Hard drives not determined, but I see that there might be a problem with the Samsung HD that I have (Sata) so will probably use WD. Seagates hard to find in Switzerland.

Thanks in advance for a look over. I may be totally off base about the MB/ CPU thing..

Mobos good, CPU is good. The video card should be good. Not to much memory and no fan As I recall RyanK is running a 7300.

At one point there where some problems with the Dominator so I advise sticking with the the regular XMS series where its available and cheaper. 2GBs if fine to start with.

I would stick with a the Seagates or the WD's at this point. Too many posts have been popping up across the Forum with Samsung stuff listed. I would rather people stick with whats working especially since the Quad and the P35 boards are not offcially approved By Digi yet (hopefully they will just move on to X38 and Penryn and save the next big round of questions )
