regards,
I spoke at length with a very nice and helpful person today at Digidesign technical support.

Unfortunately he has not yet found specific proof that "REV G" hardware upgrade will fix my fader problem (that I have had since day 1)....

he said he would call me back today, or his supervisor would call me tomorrow... but if they don't find proof that "REV G" will fix the problem, I would have to pay a flat $255 fee for the upgrade....

He was going to call the actual experts in the service department at Digi for more info - hopefully they'll say that yes, Rev G will fix this issue, and it is a known issue, and to issue an RMA for a no charge repair.

Jusy got off the phone with a very helpful fellow from Digi named Tom

It seems that Digi is, as usual, being cool and stepping up to the plate.... and issuing a warranty RMA to do the best they can to find and fix my problem, once and for all.

The fact that I have duplicated the problem on three different computers, and three different rigs (with three different USB cables) does indeed point to a problem, and they acknowledge this.

It seems that the Command 8 is now up to Rev J. (my unit is about 3 years old)

I’ll report back here once all is fixed. Ummmmmm..... actually..... more likely... if you DONT hear from me here, all is GOOD

what steps do you take to calibrate it?

I'm not familiar with this, other than what it does when it starts up... and it calibrates itself...

it is still in for repair at Digi.... waiting to hear back from them as to status.

well.... I recently got my Command 8 back from Digi - where they kindly replaced some parts....

They stated that they "upgraded firmware" but as far as my research shows me, my firmware was already up to date... FWIIW.

anyway, my Command 8 is now acting wierd.... when it first gets turned on, the faders jump around, and the displays will alternate randomly between fader values and track names...

today (with a client there) when I opened a session, and the faders freaked out.... i eventually discovered that the first 4 faders were moved by the Command 8's freakouts to the wrong place (the first three were moved to the bottom) so my mix was quite wacked. Luckily I could turn off the Command 8 , then open a previous version of the mix and find out were the faders should be....

The Command 8 never did this before prior to be at Digi for repairs...

I'll call them on Monday.

I've had this on and off. Fader 1 writes to fader 2. Usually it just writes a straight line to fader 2. I sent my unit in with an RMA last summer and had it upgraded to REV G (IIRC) and that didn't change anything.
I'm sure it's a grounding issue of some kind, because when it happens if you conciously touch nothing but fader 1 with your fingertip (without any of your hand touching the base of the mixer) then the problem will go away.
