PT 2018 - No Sound
I need some help.
Here is my setup. I'm using a BEHRINGER UMC 404HD via USB into an iMac with PT 2018. I have reset the I/O to all defaults and am not getting any audio. This includes templates with existing drum tracks. Can anyone verify the settings related to I/O? I've tried most scenarios/settings and cannot get any audio. |

Re: PT 2018 - No Sound
Not getting any audio when recording or no audio output at all? Could you post some screen shots of your I/O configuration and mix window? Do you have any signal on your mix master out channel? The more info you can provide, the better.

Re: PT 2018 - No Sound
Thanks for the response Chris.
I'll post screenshots later today. I do get sound everywhere else, iTunes, system sounds, even GarageBand. |

Re: PT 2018 - No Sound
Here are what I think are the relevant setup screens. Not sure what to correct or add at this point.
I'm using headphones plugged into the Behringer which is connected via USB to the iMac. Any assistance is very appreciated. |

Re: PT 2018 - No Sound
With your Playback Engine set to Built-In Output, Pro Tools will only play audio out the Mac's hardware (and has no input) - so you won't get audio from the UMC404HD. You need to select your device as the Playback Engine.
You might need to troubleshoot the UMC404HD since it's not showing up in Audio MIDI Setup. Also check the USB section of Applications > Utilities > System Information to see if it's being recognized by the computer.

Re: PT 2018 - No Sound
Thanks Jeffro, I see what you mean by the iMac not recognizing the UMC404HD.
I think I've rectified that but still no sound. Testing the headphones through the audio setup does play white noise through the headphones so I'm sure they are operable. Here are the new settings. |

Re: PT 2018 - No Sound
Good to see the Playback Engine set correctly now.
Curious if you are getting audio in through the UMC404HD now? Try a guitar or mic... Not familiar with that interface, but it does have a MIX knob that blends its inputs (IN) with audio coming back from your software (PB). Turn it clockwise to monitor Pro Tools. It looks like the PHONES A/B switch simply toggles between outputs 1/2 and 3/4. If that's set correctly, and there no other internal routing in that interface, then try clicking the Default button in I/O Labels > Outputs in Pro Tools and make sure you have your tracks set to the matching outputs (1/2 for A) and that there is audio or a virtual instrument being triggered on your tracks. Reply back with your results...

Re: PT 2018 - No Sound
Yes, I am getting audio in from a keyboard signal through line 1 (set to Inst). The signal does not clip but the sound coming back from PT is very distorted.
I still cannot hear the drum track on channel 1. |

Re: PT 2018 - No Sound
Your screenshot shows Boom (virtual instrument) on the drum track, but it's greyed out indicating it's not loaded. Did you run the AIR Instruments installer?

Re: PT 2018 - No Sound
Thanks Jeffro, I can now hear the drum track and have input in via the Behringer. Seems the last issue is the input sound (keyboard in via instrument) sounds clear but the output is distorted and cuts in and out. The drum track also does this. Wonder could the Behringer be defective?
I'll try tomorrow to change the I/O to the PT Aggregate I/O through speakers and see if I get the same issue. Maybe we're getting close. Thanks for all of your help so far on this, much appreciated. |
