Default Re: No Access to MIDI Patch Names File in PT HD 11.1

Hi,

I talked with 2 colleagues yesterday and for both of them, PatchNames are working fine. Both are on MacOSX10.9 and both using PT 11.1.2.

Why is it working for them and not for "us" ?
Maybe a question how one installed OSX10.9 ? New install or just update from OSX10.8 ? On the other hand, danlogic wrote that he is using 10.8.5 and it isn't working their either.
Strange, isn't it ?

Maybe they did an in-place upgrade rather than a clean install and the patch lists just migrated with the upgrade? I deleted and recreated my MIDI studio after upgrading. Did you ask them about creating new devices and attaching patch lists? - just a shot in the dark. Patch lists have been flakey for me since the 64bit coreMIDI server came on the scene circa Lion/ML, but in previous versions of PT I've always gotten them to work.

I will drive tomorrow evening to one of those guys. Then I will check it by myself and report back on Monday.

So if I open the same session in PT 10.3.8 and assign a midnam file to the MIDI instrument I am using. It works fine. Save and open that same session in PT 11 and it now works fine as well. I just can't initialize a MIDI instrument in PT11.

Thanks for the suggestion. I reinstalled PT 10.3.8 and no patch lists to start. But when I deleted and then recreated a MIDI device in AMS, voila, patch list works for recreated device. Repeat recreate for all MIDI devices with patch lists and all working in 10.3.8. Then load PT 11.1.2 et voila, patch lists all working there also. The first time I tried 10.3.8, I must not have deleted and recreated the devices (which is usually the first thing I try). Oh well, something is still messed up with 11.x, but back in business for now.

Hi,

I checked it by myself on one of those systems from the colleagues yesterday:

If I create a new Midi device within AMS and want to add .midnam files later in PT 11 it won't work. Only the ones who were already working using PT 10 (or maybe previous PT11.1.2 version) will display the patchnames.

The guy is using MacOSX 10.9.1.

What also works is exchange the mcfg file within user/Library/Audio/MIDI Configurations with an older one which was backed up from an earlier "working" configuration.

But it is definitely broken *somehow*.

I deleted all my Instruments in the Audio Midi Setup, rebuilt everything, even did a Pro Tools 11 reinstall and still no luck. The Patchnames don't show up. Instead there's always the Error Message: "MIDIServer Patch File, bank, or mode information not available for this Instrument".
I tried to add the Names manually, pressed "Change" and selected the Midinam File, same Error Message...
The Instrument is a Roland XV-5050 and it shows up in the Midi Patch Names Folder.
Hmm, what can we do?

Not much at the moment. It's simply broken in PT11.x.

The only chance you might have is using an old AMS setup which was created by an earlier PT Version (like PT10.x ... I donno if it was always broken in PT11).

Just wait for the next PT update

Default Same issue here

Hi-

Brand new to PT11 and after a first-time install having the same issue. I am not able to access any patch names for my MIDI devices. Does anyone know if this has been resolved yet, or if there is a workaround in the meantime? (Deleting/recreating devices in AMS does not result in any change in program behavior for me, either.) Thanks-

Not fixed yet - so far the best work around is to install PT10 and define your MIDI devices/patches in that version. Then they show up in PT11. Check this thread: http://duc.avid.com/showthread.php?t=349183
