Default Studio Cabling - Mogami Cable Types?

We are currently finalizing the design of our new studio and we're down to cabling and have come across some questions... We currently use, both live and in our project studio, Mogami cables... When purchased from the standard music distributors, these cables are fairly expensive. We found many sources on bulk cable distributors that would lower the cost per cable by about 50% to 60%... a significant savings when you think of studio cabling costs, and allow us to have custom length cables.

My question is that when I look up the cable, there are so many choices that we're not sure what our best options are... does someone have some advice?

Our current standard is Gold Neglex Quad Mic Cables when purchased from the music distributors, but this cable is W2791 (written on the cables). That's "Balanced Broadcast Mic Cable" according to Mogami.

There are so many options that we don't know where to start or what specs to even look for. Prices are USD - Per Foot in parentheses...

W2447 - Balanced and Individually Shielded Light Duty Mic Cable (0.44)
W2549 - Standard Balanced Mic Cable (0.64)
w2552 - Light Duty Balanced Mic Cable (0.34)
W2791 - Balanced Broadcast Mic Cable (0.90)
W2792 - Balanced Low Noise Mic Cable (0.50)
W2582 - Balanced Mic/Line Cable (0.43)
W2806 - Install Grade Balanced Mic Cable (0.46)

Any help would be greatly appreciated! :)

2791 is great stuff. But for studio wiring, you usually want 8 and/or 16 channel stuff. Maybe you need the advice of a pro studio builder who can come on site? What you need depends on so many things. More than can be easily communicated in a few forum posts.

Yeah, I don't really need a consultant for bulk cable reels... Their multi-channel stuff is strait forward and doesn't have a lot of "flavors". This is really just for making up jumpers, patch, and misc. cables. I already know the 2971 stuff is good stuff for mics and there is only one flavor of instrument cabling... so I guess we'll just go with that... :)

We'll be using the standard multi-channel stuff for our wall panels.

Oh, that kind of cabling. I think 2791 is overkill for things longer than about 10 feet. I'd go with Standard for that stuff.

What do you mean by 8 or 16 channel, are you talking about lightpipe cables? Or making a snake?
