Default Problems Bouncing Virtual Instruments Into Audio

Can anybody please help me as I am a newcomer to pro tools and find it a bit confusing?

I am having problems when I want to send a virtual instrument track from one audio track to another via the buss sends. All I want to do is convert the instrument into audio so I can save on processing power.

I set up 2 audio tracks and one midi track

Insert a virtual instrument into my first audio track for e.g. SAMPLETANK

I then route the midi track into one of SAMPLETANKS inputs via the output of the midi track

I then can successfully start recording

After recording I want to bounce the audio track with SAMPLETANK onto another audio track so I can then use another virtual instrument and save on processing power.

I send the audio track with SAMPLETANK to buss 3-4 and then set my input on my other audio track to 3-4.

I then boost the send level

I hit record enable on the track I am recording to but I don’t get any signal at all.

The only time I do get a signal is when I am playing SAMPLETANK using my keyboard.

I'm just lost, can anyone help me.

Cheers

ANCO

Default Re: Problems Bouncing Virtual Instruments Into Aud

The main reason why you are having trouble is your monitoring mode. Most likely, you're in "Auto Input" mode, which means that you will only hear what's going to a record armed track when the transport is actually in record. On playback, you hear the track material, not the input. What you want to do is change your monitoring mode to be "Input Only" for this process. (more info starting on Page 154 of the Reference Guide, also available from the help menu)

It's usually recommended that you use virtual instruments on AUX tracks (or instrument tracks if you're using 7.x) for many reasons, the big one being that you're wasting two of the precious 32 voices on something that is "virtual" until you do the process that you are trying to do.
