Default Expert needed for best performance question...

Ok. I am getting ready to record drum tracks. I will be recording 10-15 sessions of simultaneous 8 track recording (8 mics). Currently I have a 001, Mackie 16 CH mixer, 002, Mac beige G3 333Mhz 380MB RAM, Compaq W8000 dual 1.6Ghz 1.5GB RAM, and assorted SCSI and Firewire drives. What would be the best system to put together to be able to record the best drum tracks. Also, what are some other performance suggestions (H/W Buffer size, etc.) You guys all know what you are doing, so I am interested in hearing what you have to say. Thanks.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Not sure that Mac is going to have enough horsepower for the new PTLE 6.1. Try that Compaq first and use the firewire drives or internal IDE drives, ATA100 7200rpm. Use a Digi approved firewire card if you run into problems with your current firewire cards.

See Best System for PTLE thread above for more suggestions.

Good luck,

general concensus is that the pre's and converters on the 002 are better than the 001. You'll need at least 4 of the mic pre's from the Mackie; you might also do some careful comparison between the Mackie and the 002 preamps, maybe use the Mackies for all 8 mics.

I'd be using the four 002 pres for sure and then using the Mackie pres for the rest or buying another 4 mic pre like the new Focusrite 420 series. I see new ones on ebay for less than 1500.00 now. Based on the Neve circuitry like the 110 series was. This is the only stuff made by Focusrite that I really like.
