Default Unable to launch protools 10 after install

Having just finished installing Windows 7 onto my new Asus laptop, I tried to chuck protools on it. installed fine but it simply refuses to open.

First it gives me an error "could not complete your request because a program error occurred" with no title. This happens immediately after "starting protools" and at the same time as the main window shows and it says "initializing database." Hitting ok makes it freeze as is and I need to kill the task in Task manager which shows "there are some incomplete tasks, quit anyways?" with the end program box showing up at the same time (Interesting thing to note, hitting "end now" in that box freezes task manager and i need to restart computer). clicking "yes" throws up the error message "access violation occurred, unable to read location 0x0000003C"

I've already tried deleting prefs and databases (there isn't anything in the app data\roaming folder), reinstalled it, updated my audio drivers and updated windows through it's update scheduler. Don't know what else to do here.

Sys specs are intel I7-4700 @2.4gHz dual core, 8Gb ram, win 7 64 bit. Realtek high definition audio, Nvidia geforce 850m. Any more info needed, i'd be happy to supply, so long as i can get my protools working on my new laptop

Help us Help You - READ THIS Before Posting!
posting a Sandra report(for PC only) is really the only way for the geniuses(not me) to tell if your computer is compatible. Some of the details that can make or break a Pro Tools PC are the chipset and the graphics card(both would be revealed in the report). You also need to record to a separate and approved hard drive(but you are not to that point yet). Do you have your iLok connected and is your Pro Tools asset actually ON the iLok?

Bit of info which may help you in the meantime (or not...); I recently reinstalled my OS on a new drive along with 10.3.9 and 11.2.1 (previously on 11.1.2). I installed the Asus utilities (AISuite, USB3Boost etc.) exactly as I had on the previous install which had no problems. However, this time around no matter what I tried (removing plug ins, several PT reinstalls etc.) Pt10 kept throwing up all kinds of errors such as you describe and PT11 kept just quitting to desktop with no warnings at all.

Removed all the Asus stuff and have had no problems with either since. No idea why they should cause problems this time around and not on the previous install but that was definitely the cause of my PT instabilities.

All I have to do now is work out how to transfer my OC settings from AISuite into the BIOS...

As far as asus utilities go, my laptop has none. it came with windows 8.1 but i made a partition and put windows 7 on it and got the drivers for everything from scratch (which could mean driver error as it automatically given me crappy drivers already). So it's pretty much a blank win 7, not much could possibly interfere with it. My Ilok key does indeed have the necessary license for protools. The laptop i'm trying to replace has a working protools installation (though on Mac OSX) and it works fine with it.

Here's my sandra report as well

Dunno if it will fix the PT10 launch issue, but you should assign a different drive letter to the partition that is now B:

I see you have a N550JK, I've got one too. If you plan to use this for PT, then I would suggest removing the optical drive and putting in a 7200RPM drive in there for your sessions.

Yes, your system drive should absolutely be designated as drive C:

Well that complicates things. I can't assign my win 7 partition to C because my win 8.1 partition is C. that can't be changed and pretty much the only way to do this would be to overwrite my C drive partition. basically, do things which i'm not really wanting to do. Guess i can't use protools then.. :'(

Well, if you wanted to use your Win8 partition instead, you can upgrade to Pro Tools 11. Or even try PT10 and see if it will work.

I'm really keeping my win8 partition temporarily just in case something goes wrong with my win 7 and i need a backup os. i'm pretty much going to completely erase it once i'm sure everything set up on win 7 works well.

I actually had the genius idea to try to install protools to my C drive. It just means i probably won't delete that partition anymore though. will see if that fixes the problem

AHA! SUCCESS! installing to C drive through win 7 has fixed the problem. it now loads up, although i did have to get an ASIO4ALL driver to fix the hardware not found issue but it's all resolved! cheers guys for the help. Never would have thought a single drive letter could make all the difference.
