Umm... what?!

And you're running ProTools from over two years ago?! Why would you push the envelope with the OS but be so archaic with the DAW?

It's been out for apple silicon (there's not an e on the end, it's not plastic surgery) for months now, since March (and last December for the beta)

I had crashes on surround workflow with 14.0 but update to 14.1 fixed them

Are you having any issues now with 14.1?

Compatibility chart has "issues" mentioned in red colored alert, so I don't think 2023.12 will support sonoma, even though sometimes they certify builds later. So... please join the club of people wondering whether 2024.03 will add support or not.

Hey J. Thanks for replying - and the membership. Surely the next PT version supports the current Mac OS? Or I shouldn't take that for granted? The next PT version is perhaps a few months away still?

No you should not take it for granted (hopefully it will) Avid appears to be on a quarterly version update schedule, so maybe 2024.3

(Pro Tools Version 2021.7.0)

If I record without messing with any plugins, it'll run fine but the moment I open a plugin I get the spinning wheel. EVERY TIME

I checked the activity monitor while its in hang time %cpu 51.4 smh

As others have noted running PT 2021.7 with OS 14.1 could be an issue

You might try to save your PT 2021 version and try updating to 2023.12

But definitely if ( PT crashes every time I open ("a") plugin),,, then understand from a diagnostic standpoint ("a") plugin is meaningless vague wording and contributes nothing constructive to diagnosing the problem .

The only thing that matters for diagnostics,,, is a systematic trouble shoot involving "THE" specific plug in causing the crash,,, so you can remove it from the PT plugin folder and try running PT again.. OR if it involves more than one plugin causing a crash,,, remove all "the" plugins causing a crash

Also you did not specify if you are talking 3rd party plugins or Avid bundled plugins ? Because you should remove all 3rd party plugins to see if PT works with bundled plugins,,, and then systematically bring one or a few 3rd party at a time, to try to find the specific one or ones causing the issue

And "bypassing" a problem plugin is meaningless it's like putting a bandaid on a cancer lesion
You need to remove the plugin from the folder plain and simple
