Default Can\'t Find Digidesign Hardware error?

I am running PT 6.4.1 (with a d/24 and a Mix farm and an Apogee 800) on a dual 1-gig G4 and I am in the process of installing OS 10.3.9 and all other software on an internal drive I recently reformatted. I have installed Pro Tools and Core Audio on this drive but when I boot PT tells me "Can't find Digidesgn hardware" and waits for me to turn it on... Except, the hardware IS on and there are no other connnection problems because if I boot to the other HD everything works fine.

Any ideas about what the problem might be?

CS

Hybrid configurations (yours) weren't tested. Neither was OS X v10.3.9 (though it works, so it may not be your problem). What is on your other HD that leads you to believe everything is fine?

I have another drive in the same Mac that has everything installed and PT works fine with my hardware setup. Therefore, I know it's not the hardware.

hmm.. make sure no apps are holding core audio up. itunes, etc. check your audio utility and toggle different options.

I get the same error in osx but it works fine in os9. I have never been able to get this working in osx. would have been nice to of last night when i was switching between final cut pro in osx and pro tools in os9.

Same OS and PT versions on this working drive?

What version of PT are you using? You need 6.9.2 or later for use with Tiger. We got this same error message with PT 6.7 and an 002 Rack.

I am using the last version of OSX before Tiger (10.3.9) and PT 6.4.1 on both drives. I am baffled! Also, when core audio is tied up it says so. This is a different error that just says it can't find the hardware.

Help!

CStern - have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling Pro Tools, making sure to do a 'clean' uninstall?

I didn't think to do it because this was a newly formatted drive with a newly installed OS. Are you saying I should deinstall and reinstall anyway?
