Terrified to Install Pro Tools

I have a problem. I got Pro Tools 10 last week, went to install it (from the disc, so 10.0), and rebooted my computer like it asked me to at the end. Upon restarting, my Macbook Pro gave me the Apple logo, the spinning pinwheel, and a loading bar at the bottom that went to about 10%, then shut off the system. My guess is that the Pro Tools installation corrupted my startup or OS files somehow. I was able to do a system restore, and got back to normal. Now I am terrified to instal Pro Tools again. I have thought about downloading the latest update (10.3.2 I believe), and seeing if that will actually give me the program without destroying my system. However, I am away at school for the next week, and should something happen to my laptop, I won't be able to restore it again until the weekend. I'd really like to have a working computer while I'm here. What would you recommend?

Also, I'm running a 15" Mackbook pro, early 2008, with OSX v10.7.5.

"and a loading bar at the bottom" would indicate safe mode.
10.3.3 is the latest
Run some mac maintenance, BackUp and try again.
Clean uninstall - reinstall
I have 10>10.3.3 on a 2008 MBP (10.7.5) as well running fine.
