Default How long before we can drag + drop AAC files again?

Anyone have any insider info on when we'll be able to drag and drop AAC files into "Pro" Tools again? I realize it's a small gripe in the grand scheme of things - just curious to know if and when a future update will restore prior functionality. Dare I mention QT export? Getting tired of the third party workarounds.

2020.5 on Catalina.

this is shocking. and certainly a huge issue. why in 2020 are we going backwards with such an expensive piece of software?

How did it become broken, and who needs to fix it?

It's ridiculous. Currently converting to wav in iTunes. Boring

Avid didn't break it. Apple did. It still works in Mojave and all other previous Mac OS versions, and it still works in Windows. It's simply one of the downsides of upgrading to Catalina.

Yes, but that the professional market leader DAW can't implement a solution is ridiculous

Exactly. In Logic/Catalina you can bounce to Quicktime, which effectively simply replaces the audio track of the Quicktime movie. Simple and gets the job done.

From Avid? Nothing so far--no notes, no acknowledgements of a fix in the works. Keep your customers in the dark. It's not as if this is some new feature they don't want to leak.

Yes I get it that they can't be bothered having to communicate every little whim and wish of the public, but even Tim Cook and Elon Musk, who both run companies way bigger than Avid, have a sense for the moment and communicate with their user base about problems and fixes.

That's all we are asking for here--

Look, guys. Importing AAC files into Pro Tools still works as well as it ever did. I can do it on both my Mac and Windows machines. If you can't, it's not because of Avid. It's because you downgraded to Catalina. There was two years worth of chatter warning you not to.

Stating that it still works if you use an older OS is misleading. Importing does *not* work with the current OS. We shouldn't be encouraging Avid to be lax about Catalina support. It's akin to arguing for the perpetual inclusion of 32-bit apps. At some point, you have to favor streamlining over legacy apps.

In any case, it isn't technically impossible for a DAW to import AAC (someone correct me if this is wrong). Avid simply hasn't done it.
