Pro Tools 7.0 LE upgrade to Snow Leopard
I have purchased a new iMac. I want to get Pro Tools 9 up and running on the new computer. I currently have Pro Tools 7 LE on my G4 (OS X 10.4.11) which I will no longer be using. How do I proceed?

Re: Pro Tools 7.0 LE upgrade to Snow Leopard
The PT9 FAQ may be helpful:
http://duc.avid.com/showthread.php?t=285388 and here is the software installation guide: http://akmedia.digidesign.com/suppor..._v90_69547.pdf Do you have any specific questions? Your question is rather broad.

Re: Pro Tools 7.0 LE upgrade to Snow Leopard
Yes, I know. I guess I'm unclear as to what "upgrade" means. Pro Tools 7 LE and my G4 will be left behind. Right?

Re: Pro Tools 7.0 LE upgrade to Snow Leopard
I'm not sure what the issue would be. Your new Imac comes with Snow Leopard installed, so that's done. Then you just install Protools 9 on that computer. None of this has any bearing on your old computer and your old version of protools.

Re: Pro Tools 7.0 LE upgrade to Snow Leopard
I think the question is do you have an interface that is eligible for the upgrade price

Re: Pro Tools 7.0 LE upgrade to Snow Leopard
Yes. You need hardware in order to get the crossgrade price.
The original MBox and the 001 are not eligible for the crossgrade price. Did you read the PT9 FAQ? It answers many upgrade questions. You will still be able to use your LE on your G4.

Re: Pro Tools 7.0 LE upgrade to Snow Leopard
Thank you. I'm a bit of a knot head. I thought that the new version would have to be somehow installed over the old version, but I see now that "upgrade" is used only to describe the pricing. Yes, and the installation instructions and faq's were helpful. I buy the software and then enter the S/N from the back of my 002 Rack when prompted in order to activate successfully. Still one question. What about audio from LE 7 to PT 9? I have sessions that I would like to bring into PT 9. Will I need to bounce to disc and then import the audio to tracks individually? Or will I be able to just open them in PT 9 and continue with the projects?

Re: Pro Tools 7.0 LE upgrade to Snow Leopard
Also on the Pro Tools 9 FAQ page:
Compatibility Information * Pro Tools 9.0 System Requirements * Pro Tools HD 9.0 System Requirements * Pro Tools Session Compatibility & Interchange The last one explains in detail about saving for backwards compatibility. You should have no problem opening a Pro Tools 7 session in Pro Tools 9.

Re: Pro Tools 7.0 LE upgrade to Snow Leopard
Just to achieve some clarity here if I may ...
One line in your FAQ says " We are offering Pro Tools LE owners the opportunity to “crossgrade” to the new Pro Tools 9 software for $249 USD (vs. paying $599 regular price for new Pro Tools 9 software). " while Park Seward, earlier in the thread says " The original MBox and the 001 are not eligible for the crossgrade price. " I was running PT LE 7.4 with an original M Box until I had to jump from Mac OS 10.4 to 10.6 ( needed to run Yamaha Studio Manager ). I have a Metric Halo box and don't need hardware at this point. Given the above statements if I move to PT 9 am I going to pay $250 or $600 ? |

I probably should have started a new thread.
