Wave Driver doesn't seem to work at all...

Hi,

I just upgraded my PT LE 6.1 to 6.1.1 using the updater program.

I then proceeded to install the ASIO 6.1.1 drivers, which the downloads section says that you must do (although checking the drivers in Device Manager suggested that they were already installed using the updater program).

Then I installed the WaveDriver 6.1.1. This was a fresh install of the WaveDriver as I didn't have this installed before.

All three stages were successful, yet when I go into 'SOunds and AUdio Devices' in Control Panel, it doesn't show up as one of the devices available. I then tried using WIndows Media Player, to see if the WaveDriver could be selected from there, without any success.

Surely the wave driver should at least show up, in other applications, otherwise how is one supposed to use it?

First.. did you restart after installing the driver?

If yes.. then download Digi MME Helper located in the WaveDriver 6.1.1 download page and make sure that the apps you want to use are listed in the Opt-in list.

Rail, I did restart my PC after installation as requested.

I am aware of your little program, the Helper, but I figured I should at least be able to select the WaveDriver manually in applications such as Media Player, without needing the helper program.

I wanted to verify this prior to installing the Helper utility, but is there any reason that this wavedriver doesn't work on its own?

Unless you run my utility and tell me what it lists as the default values.. I can't help you.

If possible, run my app and post a link to a screenshot.

Are you logged in as an Administrator when installing the WaveDriver? Which version of XP?

Okay Rail, I can't get a screenshot, but here is the 'Opt-in' list:

moviemk.exe
rundll32.exe
winamp.exe
winamp3.exe
wmplayer.exe

Also, I have XP Pro with SP1, and I have administrator rights, as I am the only user of the PC.

As a side note, in the WaveDriver PDF usage guide, is says "Digidesign WaveDriver 6.1.1 is automatically installed when you install Pro Tools LE 6.1.1", which is contradictory to what it says on the downloads section. Anyhow, that's probably got nothing to do with my problem.

wmplayer.exe is the Windows Media Player -- so the question is if another app or the OS is grabbing the Digi hardware.. only one app can use it at a time. Make sure that Pro Tools and any ASIO apps aren't running.

What Digi hardware do you have? If it's an 002 - is the 1394 light lit solid? If it is, then another app is using the driver.

Absolutely no other app running. I have an 002R and the green light is off which I believe means that the driver is not being used.

Another thing, is that I dont actually see any of the midi-ports on my 002R either. I thought that upgrading to 6.1.1 would fix this but nothing has changed. Also the MMERefresh.exe makes no difference either. Problems. Problems ...

I guess I'll just have to take my machine to bits to get to the bottom of this.

I'd suggest you uninstall all aspects of Pro Tools, then search for the file dalwdm.sys and delete all occurences of it (include your system folders in the search parameters).

Reboot
Reinstall PT 6.1 (only, no ASIO or WaveDrivers)
Check that it works, then quit and install 6.1.1 update (again, no ASIO or WaveDrivers)
Reboot
Check that Pro Tools 6.1.1 works okay

Install the ASIO 6.1.1 driver.
Install the WaveDriver 6.1.1

Reboot

Check if they work now.
