Yep! That would be amazing.

The addition of a "Shrink-on-Untarget" button, next to the current Target button on plug-in windows:

Most plug-ins are arguably sized primarily for ease of controls interaction, followed by text readability. Other elements such as meters, on the other hand, could easily be resized to 25% and still provide useful visual feedback. By optionally "zooming out" the entire plug-in window to a quarter or even half its default size when it becomes untargeted, screen clutter would be greatly relieved, especially on laptops.

This would essentially be a behavior modifier switch affecting the existing Target button which, when disabled, leaves the current plug-in window fully open when switching to a different plug-in instance.

A shrunk plug-in would zoom back in when it is retargeted (the ability to drag/relocate plug-in windows in their shrunken state would be retained), and the plug-in which had just been untargeted automatically zooms out to its previous landing location, remains open at full size, or closes altogether, depending on the combined states of its Shrink-on-Untarget and Target buttons.

Since Pro Tools hosts all plug-ins inside a common type container, this really should be a relatively straightforward enhancement, programming-wise.

An Elastic Audio Column in edit view.
so in smaller than medium view control can be adjusted.

OK, here's another one:

A couple versions ago, Avid stuck in an apparently Logic-inspired EQ Curve View thumbnail on tracks in the Mix window.

yay.

It's just a waste of space if a manufacturer hasn't coded their plug-in to work with it. And in the end, how useful is it, really?

How about instead (or alternatively) a Live Vectorscope thumbnail to visually aid with placement and spread of each track's audio within the stereo field, identify phase problems, etc.? To me, this seems like it would be a much more useful tool for addressing sonic issues that are often subtle and much more difficult to discern by ear than EQ is. And from an eye-candy perspective, how cool would that be for a client to see in action?

I must say I never have any real issues with Protools but then everyone uses its broad functionality based on their experience differently. It’s designed to accommodate everyone that’s a tough call on any software designer / developer

Spot on.. it's just a excuse for a new feature, they should be observing how efficient Logic is on even the most humble of computers, and figure out why their code performs so badly with AAE errors galore.

And how's about further improvements to the import session data dialog box like:
1 - making the tracks window resizeable
2- the ability to hide inactive tracks in said window
3- actually copy over send volume data

A unification into ONE Pro Tools software version that includes all features that aren’t hardware dependent.

Ability to switch inserts pre or post Fader. Including on master faders.

Individual control over track insert and send views. (So one track could show 10 inserts and another 5 etc. )
