Default PT's 9.0.5 Kernel Panics

I've been using 9.0.3 on OSX 10.6.5 for sometime without incident but since updating to 9.0.5 (still on 10.6.5) I've been getting KP's after every hour or so that ProTools is open. It's not a plug-in issue either as I'm only using 1 plug-in & that is the same version that I've used successfully on 9.0.3.

I'm about to go back to 9.0.3 but thought I'd mention it here in case others have experienced this problem? Maybe it's better to run 9.0.5 with Lion who knows. I just know I can't get any work done on 10.6.5 & 9.0.5.

I can post a crash log if anyone can read them or if someone at Avid needs it.

Plug-ins don't have to be used in the session to cause problems. Have you absolutely, positively verified that all installed plug-ins are compatible? The plug-in compatibility grid can be found via the link in the header of this forum.

According to the update centre I have all the current versions. They all seem to work fine under 9.0.3 as well. I'm back on 9.0.3 now & it's solid as a rock. In the crash log from 9.0.5 there is no mention of any plug-ins halting the process that I can make out. I'm happy to upload it somewhere if you're interested in looking at it for me?

The update center info only covers Avid/Digidesign plug-ins and a few 3rd party ones, so plug-ins could still be a factor.

Do you still have the AvidLogFiles from when you had the problems with 9.0.5? If so, please email them to me at : vi [at] digidesign [dot] com. Please include a link to this thread in the subject or body of the message.

Thanks I'm still running 9.0.3 which is running nice and stable. I may try the next update for 9.x when it's available.

Hi Matt,

I've experienced some incompatibility with digidesign legacy kernel extensions.

Just try to delete "/System/Library/Extensions/DigiDal.kext"

DigiDal is causing several problem, not only kernel panics.
In my case ProTools is working much better without that kernel extension.

you can read more about it on my daw project documentation

..., and if you're not an Eleven owner, also get rid of /System/Library/Extensions/DigidesignElevenRack.kext
or any other Digidesign kernel extension.

;-)

hope this help to solve your problem, good luck ;-)

recall:

1.) DigiDal.kext seems to be mandatory for HD systems, so only non HD Users can get rid of it.

2.) since Protools 9.0.6 update the new DigiDal.kext does not cause kernel panics any more.
