I've heard nothing but good things about the MachFive. I just don't have the money for it. But when i do, i will get it. It supports virtually everything in regards to samples and plugin formats.

Still seems a little buggy, based on all the reviews I read. I would hold out a little longer to see what Kontakt has to offer. Despite the RTAS version being pushed back a few times, I still have a little faith left in NI, and I prefer Kontakt's interface (that's just me, though).

I'm using MACH5 daily on an album Im mixing with excellent results. No problems what-so-ever.

I've coverted of 40-50 GB worth of AKAI and GIGA samples without an issue. The install was also flawless. I have no other ILOK software, so I'm not sure what it's like to consolidate the MACH5 license onto an existing ILOK.

I have 1.4 GB of RAM, and usually only use a hand full of MACH5 instantiations at a time (I sweeten them with outboard gear and print them) so I can't speak to the hard drive streaming vs. RAM concern. Im told that MOTU will offer disc streaming as a free update.

mm, yeah. and when the v1.5 update comes out later this month (hopefully), it will be much more universal than "machFIVE, the universal sampler." kontakt already streams from disk, and it provides much more sound mangling possibilities.

I personally would not buy Mach5 until it can stream from HD. It has a beautiful GUI, the program has a lot of potential, it's not really supported yet natively for ANY major sample CD developers. In my opinion it is still in a beta stage. Currently no where near what Kontakt 1.5 can do ( although I'm not crazy about NI Kontakts' GUI, I do prefer Mach5s' GUI ).

Personally for me, it just isn't at a version stage to where I would shell out the $ and wait until it streams directly from HD. No matter what MOTU says, who knows how long that would be.
Presently for Mac OSX, Kontakt 1.5 is setting the benchmark. Some hardcore diehard MOTU users may buy it for the included sample library, and just because they are loyal MOTU supporters/users. But because Mach5 uses the same UVI engine similar to what Spectrasonics & Plugsound are using in their plug-ins, this is a very efficient engine and design...this is a big plus.

Also I would never consider buying it period, without at least some type of a crippled demo. NI is kind enough to have demo versions (crippled obviously), of almost all their software...including Kontakt.
