PT 8 Upgrade on New iMac i7

Could this be the problem?:

Before I bought the iMac last month, I had been using a Powerbook G4 PPC that was running on just a 1.5 Ghz processor. I was obviously running out of juice and invested in the iMac. I was running 7.4.2 on the powerbook with a mbox2 pro. Before getting the iMac I bought a PT8 digital download upgrade for the laptop.

I used this upgrade to install PT on my new iMac---and I'm just realizing--doh--that this might be causing all my trouble? or maybe not Do I need to have installed a previous version of PT before "upgrading" to PT8. (no, I don't think so??) It seems that PT8 upgrade would be a full version... right? The Pro Tools 8 installer is a full installer and you do not need to have any previous version installed.
