Connect your studio's coax line (the one that you were going to use for composite video) to the card's SDI output. In the studio, use an SDI-to-HDMI converter. If you have a spare cat5e in the walls you could use HDMI to cat5 converters (a.k.a "balun")

You could use SDI over your existing tie lines, and have a SDI to HDMI converter in the Foley room. SDI was designed for this purpose - to be able to run digits over existing infrastructure.

use the sdi signal and buy 30€ sdi to hdmi converrters. much cheaper than using long hdmi cables and you can use very long runs with sdi without having to buy these crazy expensive cat 6 or fibre extenders

Great. I've ordered converter and will get back to you when I have a chance to get everything running.

Thank you.

Note that you need SDI-capable coax cables. Your current 75ohms SD-co-ax wiring might not be able to cope with the high bandwidth signal but maybe they can. Depends on the length.
For long runs you'll need SDI co-ax cables. But they cost way less than HDMI cables.

There are plenty of facilities who have just used their SD wiring as is and are having no issues. You can't use all SD vda's, but on short to medium runs it's absolutely fine.

Hey Guys,

So I tested HDMI out and through converter box and I get Video. Thank you all.

But now, no mater what config I use on the desktop video sys pref or video import into protools I get this small picture. I've tried both 720, and 1080 videos. I can't seem to get it to fill the screen. I've also reached out to Blackmagic and waiting to hear back.

That could be a setting on the TV. Not sure. Never seen that. I use a Decklink SDI with 1080P 24fps/25 and 23.98 DNxHD36 codecs depending on the project with any output-conversion settings set to OFF in the BM prefs.

What kind of conversion box is that? SDI to HDMI?

Hey Frank, this is straight off the HDMI. I've tried all those codecs as well as DNxHD36, and every setting on my TV. same result. Also played around with the settings on my Video Desktop v. 10.5. It's been mention I should go back to video desktop 10.3.7. Maybe I'll try that. As I mentioned, I'm also waiting to hear back from Blackmagic.

thanks

Ok so I did a test with Blackmagic's software Media Express and got video FULL screen. But coming out of protools I get mini screen. ???

Running PT 12, Mac Pro Yosemite, desktop video v 10.5

Will try a test with v 10.3.7 soon as I can.

Frank what version of Pro tools and Desktop video are you running?
