My friends Athlon 3000+ reads as a 1.4 ghz in properties.I built his rack pc for him a few weekends ago and he wanted the athlon 3000 +.
He tried the davec last night and could only get 20 tracks and it reads in properties that its a 1.4 ghz!!! I have the 2500 + and mine reads as a 2.2 ghz. Hes on the other side of the state so I cant look at it myself.Any ideas?.

A7v600 mother board.
He changed it to 2.27 GHz now and its working alot better.I thought the system would automatically adjust to the processor speed.

Re: Athlon 3000+ reads as a 1.4 ghz
Just checked my BIOS, I have the Asus A7N8X 333FSB non-deluxe board with the latest BIOS before they went 400FSB.
Under Advanced settings: CPU Exteernal Freq = 166 CPU Freq Multiplier = AUTO x CPU Freq = 13.0x x CPU Interface = Agressive In XP under device manager it should say 2.16 GHz. |

Re: Athlon 3000+ reads as a 1.4 ghz
when you start the machine, hit the DELETE key to enter the BIOS and see what the CPU settings are. Also click the Start button > Settings > Control Panel > Device Manager and that will tell you what your current setting is.
PLEASE BY ALL MEANS!!!! If you have never been in the BIOS settings, don't change anything or you could mess things up. |

Re: Athlon 3000+ reads as a 1.4 ghz
Hey guys
I have been lurking around here for awhile. Neatguys posted this thread for me (I was busy trying to destroy my machine) For the record my machine is set at: 2167 MHz / 166 I tried many different settings and I finally figured out how to take it out of manual mode and selected 2167, and everything else fell into place. It is now reading 2.17 GHz at the "My Computer" properties I had a few scares along the way but it seems stable now. Although I figured it out, I'd like to just say thanks to you guys just for being here. Also a big thanks to Doomin' (Neatguy), he totally went out of his way to hook me up and you won't meet a nicer guy. |

Re: Athlon 3000+ reads as a 1.4 ghz
I do have a question:
I know that the settings (2167Mhz = 2.17Ghz) for my Barton 3000+ are somewhat close, if not correct... but does anyone think that I can get more out of this processor (without sacrificing stability)? |

Re: Athlon 3000+ reads as a 1.4 ghz
I have a different board but still a Via K600 chipset. I have a Barton 2500 which in reality is a downgraded XP3200. I slung it in the board (EPOX8KRA i think) and it immediately called it an XP3200 @ 2.2Ghz. Most of these downgraded chips are downgraded because they don't post properly at so-called 'normal' voltages.
Anyway mine posts fine. To overclock XP chips, i'd suggest raing the FSB in bios and starting with a low multiplier. I have mine at FSB of 200 and a multiplier of x11 = 2.2Ghz. I have had the multiplier up to 13 i.e 2.6Ghz and things are fine but hot!!! All this for a chip which cost me $90!!!
