Late 2012 Mac Mini and PTHD
Hey guys,
Who is running one of the 2.3G quad i7's? We're looking to get one for our mobile rig as it seems to be a pretty peppy machine. I've heard some users complain of heat issues when running higher CPU loads, and that the machine won't withstand it for long durations of time, and will eventually die - something that is not made better with the built in Intel graphics chip. Any experiences here from anyone? Any info much appreciated. Thanks! Sig |

Re: Late 2012 Mac Mini and PTHD
I think for a "power user", I would look into some additional cooling method. Maybe someone makes a "cold plate" cooler for laptops that could help? Or, since the aluminum case is also a heatsink(or is it) maybe just a fan blowing over it would help?

If you're talking "Portable Rig" get a Macbook Pro instead in my humble opinion... You can push your clock and not worry about overheating.... http://www.apple.com/macbook-pro/features/

Interesting. Kinda what I've been reading elsewhere.
Would love to hear more opinions. Guess the Macbook Pro would be the way to go, especially since the current incarnation (not retina) allows for RAM to be changed, and has a DVD/CD drive, which we still use to print discs for clients. Who knows how much longer they'll be available... Thanks, Sig |

I use a Mac Mini Server 2.0/2011 with PT HD Native. The MMS does get hot but it works well.

Yeah to me the MBookPro is cudos, you get the screen (no having to get an apple cinema or thunderbolt display), keyboard, options for much faster processing.... etc...
I think either would work, but a laptop you simply unplug close and gently place in a carry bag... You need a lot of Gak to use a Mac Mini |

I have a late 2012 Mini with 16-gigs (OWC - $114.00) and it flies and quiet as a mouse.
