It's a solid mixer. I currently use it as part of a ridiculous work around involving Reason, iBook, PT free, Griffin Imic, a pack of smokes, and a lot of patience.

Anyway, I did some pre-production for a friend's band - we went live to Dat using 2 mics and the Behringer 602A and they actually liked that better than what they ended up with from another studio.

Some may disagree, but I can't tell a difference between the Behringer and a Mackie.

As long as you can stomach the ethics of Behringer products, I say go for it!

Andy

For the price ya cannot beat em. Good for live stuff for sure, just don't crank the preamps too much or they get noisey.

Default BEHRINGER MX-602A Super Compact Mixer

i'm thinking of getting this for a side-project band. it is so cheap($70) and small!
anyone used this or know about it?
however, i'm wondering about using it in between my interface and monitors.
is it any good for studio monitoring?
(ie. running 882 into MXR line inputs into monitors as a space conserving volume attenuator.)
i'd love to sell my Mackie 1604 as that's all it's used for really these days. i use other outboard units for tracking.

it looks like you have to get the 802A for balanced outputs, which seems pretty stupid. the inputs are all balanced on 602A.
still it's only $30 more at $100, which is still $250+ less than the Mackie 1202. (if Mackie had such a solution, like a 602 VLZPro, i'd gladly pay $75 or $100 more for it.)
i don't think anyone else makes something so small and cheap that is still usable. am i wrong about this?

Felix, look at the Behringer MXB 1002. It cost me ~ $130.00 (at Guitar Center - maybe it was on sale at the time, I don't remember) and it can be battery powered.

I got it in case I ever need to record a mountain lion in the wild or something. Plus it has real faders, 10 channels, and a lot of other goodies too - still with a very small footprint (~9"x12"). I just use it for output monitoring in the studio, nothing goes into PT through it. It works great for what I need.

BTW-the phantom isn't 48V when on batteries - I think it's something like 18V - whatever, it's still pretty cool.

I bought one of the MX602 mixers
for just the same purpose.
I only use it between my soundcard's
output and my monitor amp.
I run from the soundcard into
on of the stereo channels so
I can roll off a little low end
(speakers against a wall) and so I
can use the Aux. send to run to
a graphic EQ meter which helps
me find problem frequencies.
(I don't run this signal back
into the mixer.)
I also run my talk back mic through it
while tracking.

I haven't had any problems
and it works fine.

Most of my audio gets into my G4 via S/PDIF or Ethernet. I use a 602A to monitor, combining 001, AM III (for SDII) and Mac audio o/p (through tape i/p).

Everything runs fine, with channel levels at 0dB.

Great value, although if it was any smaller and it would be a pre-amp!

I use one for monitoring, kinda act's as a master master volume control, goes between the PT output (and the maccy one, if ness) and to a active Tannoy sub (with an active crossover) which sends a filter signal to a AMP (with a volume control as well) - so I couldn't think of another way to "control levels" without getting out on my hands and kness everytime I wanna turn it up or down!!!

Cheap as chips, sounds fine for monitoring.

I've got a standalone pre-amp for getting signals into PT though.

From what I could gather from the manual it has balanced outputs (via 1/4" TRS).
