Default Session 8 Interface

Greetings,

You may find this amusing, or just simply think I'm a crazy hoarder:

I have my Session 8 IO interface (882 Studio) that I purchased new in 1993. In fact, I have the entire system with ISA and SCSI cards, R1 control surface and an old ISA PC. Someday I might try to set it back up as a working retro display piece. Probably not. It was a bitch to setup in the first place. I would have to be pretty desperate for a tinkering project.

So anyway, I keep the 3 RU interface in one of my racks because it looks so damn cool. The R1 is hanging on the wall. I love retro gear. I'm thinking of mounting the interface in a sort of antique hardwood box/rack type thing. This got me wondering about all of that delicious analog IO just sitting there.

The question is:

Is there any way to use any of the IO with the unit running standalone? i.e. just powered up and not hooked to an old PC? I'm not talking about studio practicality or efficiency here, I'm talking about whether I can run some analog audio through the sub-mixer part (or other IO) as an amusing, semi-functional art piece. I'll never get rid of it either way.

Thoughts appreciated. Creative ideas encouraged.

Thanks.

I worked on a lot of commercial projects with that box. The gain pots were loose and scratchy. There's no way to use it standalone. The submixer part would allow you to plug in up to 5 stereo inputs, but they were submixed to line ins 1-2.
