No playback sound using Mbox mini 3

After being away from recording for a couple of months I suddenly find no sound on playback through my MBox mini 3rd Gen. I checked settings input output etc. and followed a few checks advised on line with no effect. I also downloaded the latest MBox driver update (package 1.1.7). Now Pro tools 9 hangs up on loading with the message 'The selected ASIO audio device could not be initialized. Please choose another audio device.' Can anyone suggest a solution please.

More details might help(only reason I know you run a Windows machine is the mention of ASIO). This might be worth a try:
Disconnect the Mbox.
Go to Control Panel>Uninstall a Program
uninstall the Mbox driver
Find the driver download and right-click and select Run as Admin
Once finished, shut down, connect the Mbox and reboot.
With any luck, you will see the popup about "New Hardware Found....."
Hold the N key while opening Pro Tools, which will take you directly to the Audio Engine selection page. If you CAN select the Mbox as the audio engine, that SHOULD do it.
