NoNoise vs Oxford Restoration
As Kontakt can't deliver a Sonic Implants sustained string without Rice Krispies, plus I do miss the occasional crossfade , I'm in the market for a declicker. Did a demo of the Oxford Restoration Tools which did a fairly good job of clean up, but still left some residual noise. But the audio was very usable after Oxford processing. Downloaded the Sonic NoNoise, which I understand has been around a lot longer, albeit with recent PCI-e issue, but seems no trial period is available. Shame.
Anyone care to voice their opinions in support of one or the other? I understand every click and pop is different, but some general feelings would be appreciated. Thanks Kevin PT 7.1cs9 g5 2.3 dp 4gb ram, HD3 PCIe, 192 i/o, c24 g5 2.3 dp 5gb ram, HD3 PCIx Apogee Rosetta, M-Patch 2 10.4.6

Re: NoNoise vs Oxford Restoration
I'm a big fan of the Waves Restoration plug ins. I don't use them for music, but for film sound work.

Re: NoNoise vs Oxford Restoration
i second, third and forth that statement....The best denoise on the planet is in the system 6000 and it is the most amazing thing I've ever heard...Secret services world wide are using it for denoising wiretabs etc....However, what comes in next IMHO is the restoration bundle form waves...it is truely great...Waves have released a Z noise too - but to my ears and recordings the restoration bundle exceeded it's purchase price by many a hard earned dollares....U can demo it at www.waves.com

Re: NoNoise vs Oxford Restoration
I use Sonic all the time and have nothing but good to say about the results. Used an older version of Waves restoration, didn't like it as much as Sonic but again, it was an older version.
Sonic is expensive as plug ins go but the results are excellent. |

Re: NoNoise vs Oxford Restoration
imo, sonic is the way to go. to my ear, the results are superior to waves and sony, and you can go farther with it. for de-clicking, it is fanstastic. for de-crackling, it is sometimes miraculous.
the sony was good. better than the waves because there is no WUP. and i found the results comparable. none of the noise reduction plugs or systems are perfect. the CEDAR is amazing, and in many many ways superior to everything...but at $7,000 USD List, it BETTER be. ..yet...i found that no-noise deals with hiss just as well if not better, so i don't rent a Cedar unless i HAVE to.

Re: NoNoise vs Oxford Restoration
You know, another really amazing thing about Sonic (don't know if the feature is in waves or sony) is the ability to fix distortion. Doesn't of course fix an entire file that's screwed up but small chunks of data can clean up miraculously.
Very processor intensive and time consuming but well worth it. Again, I wish Sonic would give us Broadband DeNoise as an audio suite plug and though there was a thread and some applications to digi for feature changes, I haven't heard anything more about it, alas. |
