I am so excited about Command|8 Joel's comments above says it all.

This *is* built by Digi, and will work better than any other controller
out there.

When I heard the news, I told my friend and he about flipped out. We've
been waiting for something like this.
though i am intrigued by this the phrase

reminds me of the famed 6.0 release....

why did they choose a usb port? usb is fastly becoming the serial port of new computers. yeah it works but is slow as h^ll by comparison. guess they need to keep the PC guys happy.

hey ken - I'm not 'pumping' up digi as the best designer of a controller - that is not what
i meant. I was just waiting for something that was designed by digi, and has the familar
interface and options that I am used to with the Control 24/ Pro Control, etc.

I'm sure this will not be 'perfect', but I'm willing to try it as they will support any
problems with it.

If you want a scrub wheel you can look at
http://www.contourdesign.com/shuttlepro/sp-apps.htm
and see that both shuttles support protools and has adressable buttons and two scrub ablilities
I use the first version in PT 6.1.1

$1295 Retail means $899-$999 in stores.

It would be nice if they included some sort of Plugin package to sweeten the deal.

Guess I was wrong, $1195.99 at Sweetwater.

looks like a great control surface, but I don't get the pricing at all. For me,(an 001 owner) I'd be a lot better off spend the exact $1295 to upgrade to an 002 which has a lot more. I think this is a little over priced for just a digi-control surface don't you guys? Don't get me wrong-this is totall blessing for the TDM-mix/hd guys who don't a control surface, but it's a little much for us LE'ers. Oh well one day I'm going to have motorized touch sensitive faders but not this year.

Under the press release-

*pasted:
System Requirements
Digidesign-approved Pro Tools LE system (Digi 002®. Digi 002 Rack™, Mbox™, Digi 001®) or Pro Tools TDM system (Pro Tools|HD®, Pro Tools|HD Accel) on Windows XP or Mac OS X. (Multiple Command|8s cannot be interconnected, nor does Command|8 interface with other MIDI-based controllers; however, it can be used in conjunction with Digidesign’s ProControl or Control|24.)

With that price, what a fiasco I rather get Mackie Control or a used Mackie HUI.
