Default Duh, why didn't I know that? (Cutting off a sound triggered by MIDI)

I admit it. I'm stuck...
I have a Timpani roll at the very end of a piece on a 'button'.
It's an midi instrument track, not audio. How do I get it to cut off as if a player had stopped it with his hand- not lingering with reverb?
I tried velocity edit, but don't know what to do.

That's why this thread is titled, ud..."

If you want total abrupt silence, try the mute button, or automated fast gate, but I probably would put a slap sound(maybe conga with a slow attack) and use it to 'damp' the sustain. Better yet, if you can automate the decay/release that should also do it. there are a couple of way that I can think of.
Perhaps the simplest is to print the VI to audio, and edit that to where you want it to stop. A slight fade may be necessary.
Really hope one of those ideas will help.

IMHO the right answer depends entirely on the specific VI you are using and it is quite possibly found in the manual.

I'd record it to audio using a single that would normally ring out, then fiddle with a quick audio fade.

Indeed, mute is one option. Gate, maybe. Print to audio and add a fade. Or maybe even the freebie Muteomatic plugin(Sound Radix) that can be set to mute as soon as you hit play, or as soon as you hit stop
