If you want PT to run properly, get a computer that meets Avids recommended requirements.
It will be easy to check when my External HD arrives I hope this solves the problem!

Guys, I have this question:

Let's say I record guitar audio track with heavy plugin (NI Guitarig5) with 32 samples buffer size. I get smooth sound, no latency. Then I go back to mixing and change buffer size back to 1024 samples.

Do I hear exactly the same sound on that track? Or does sound quality of the track slightly drop (eg. very slight latency?)?

It seems to me I hear very slight change in signal. Yet this may be psychological effect - after all it is me who change buffer size, so i know what I did. So what's the theory and practice?

Thanks

Just an update:

Yes, moving libraries and audio to two external drives solved the problem. Thanks a lot.

This does not solve the problem at all.
This error is a terrible pain.
It affects all Pro tools devices as well as other applications. It has been increasing in the last two years on all my machines.
I am seriously looking for a pro tools alternative because they have all became unusable.
My interfaces DIGI002 and DIGI003 cannot be used anymore even if is is nearly new.
Normaly it should never happen, because it did not happen on old machines with had much slower processors, connections and audio cards.
Pro Tools 12 pretended to solve the problem but it is worth at every update or upgrade. The problem is that all my Digidesign/Avid systems are affected.
RC
Avid does have no solution, firmware update, no driver updates and a bad processor optimisation.

This has started happening regularly with me. Once it starts the only recourse is a full Mac reboot, then Pro Tools may work for a few minutes to a few hours before blowing its brains out. System usage NEVER shows more than 6% total across eight CPU cores. I'm going to bump PT to 12.5 but I don't hold out much hope.

MacBook Pro 15" mid-2012, 1TB internal system drive
2.7G Intel I7, 8GB 1600MHz DDR3
OS X El Capitan 10.11.3
Nvidia GeForce GT 650M 1024MB
Samsung 850 Pro 256 GB external SSD
Pro Tools 12.4.0

Update:

I installed PT 12.5 (without rebooting) and received the error immediately. I then restarted the Mac (since this seems to be the only workaround at the moment) and it's working - for the moment.
