Breakpoint drama in 12.6
That thread in the PT12 subforum is confusing and getting nowhere with people on different systems using different tools talking past each other. So...
Can someone just confirm that holding [shift+command+alt] then click-and-dragging in slip mode with smart tool in 12.6 = fine adjustment freely in all directions? And someone said something about adding breakpoints is now different with the smart tool. I don't see why or how that would be. On Mac, in 12.4, you control-click to add a breakpoint with the smart tool. 12.6's slip-grid toggle key is command. So can someone just confirm that in 12.6 with the smart tool, cntrl-click adds a breakpoint just like in previous versions? 'preciate it. |

Re: Breakpoint drama in 12.6
tl;dr:
Yes, the basic control+click gesture with the smart tool when interacting with an automation lane is the same in 12.6 as previous versions of Pro Tools. Specifically, while using the smart tool, and prior to clicking, holding Control clutches into the pencil tool when interacting with an automation lane. When holding control prior to clicking, and then clicking once you will create a single breakpoint at the value that corresponds to the location of your mouse in the vertical scale of the track. When holding control and clicking and holding the mouse down you will draw breakpoints in freely wherever you then drag the mouse. While using the smart tool, and prior to clicking, holding Command clutches into an "add breakpoint" cursor that will add a single breakpoint at the current value of the existing line where clicked. While holding command prior to clicking, then clicking and holding the mouse down, you will draw a single breakpoint and then be able to move that single new breakpoint freely both horizontally and vertically between the previous and next breakpoint on the line. The smart tool behaviors described above have not changed in 12.6. The gestures to make fine adjustments to existing breakpoints after clicking to move them or create them when using the grabber or smart tool have been modified slightly, described here by Kyle |

Re: Breakpoint drama in 12.6
Ok, good news on creating a breakpoint. But what about the other question? Kyle's post only mentioned shift+command and grabber tool. I'd like to know if fine adjustment freely in all directions is possible with the smart tool. Someone in the other thread suggested you can hold shift+command and click-n-drag for vertical fine adjustment, then while still holding down everything, add alt and that'll allow you fine movement in all directions. I don't think he was using the smart tool, and for some reason he didn't try simply holding shift-command-alt from the start, but it made me think that shift-command-alt and then click-n-drag would allow fine adjustment in all directions in slip mode with the smart tool. Or that at least SOME key combo in the right sequence would allow it. Yes? No?

Answered my own questions. And found a bug.
