Default Did I buy the wrong version?

I bought Pro Tools M-Powered. All I really need is the multitrack editing features - I don't need to be able to attach hardware.

I installed OK but when it starts, it's asking about the hardware. Is it possible to bypass that somehow and go straight to the multitrack editing?

Or should I have bought just the Pro Tools LE? And if that's the case, is there a simple way to exchange it? The store that I bought it at (Best Buy) doesn't have LE - just M-Powered.

Thanks for the advice!

M-Powered and LE both require hardware to run.

For M-Powered, you would need a supported M-Audio interface.

If you don;t need to record, you might go with an Mbox 2 Micro which includes Pro Tools LE software.

So I guess my question is, I want to use Pro Tools like Adobe Audition on the PC-side. I have music and voice tracks and other elements I want to process and mix. Can I bypass the question about hardware and just use it as a multitrack mixer? And if so, how?

Since you already have Pro Tools M-Powered, you could get the M-Audio Transit:
http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/Transit.html

or the M-Audio JamLab:
http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/JamLab.html

Those would be the smallest M-Powered compatible devices, both under $100 list price.

A little larger, and not much more expensive would be the Fast Track USB:

Digidesign, that's very helpful. You anticipated my next question and answered it before I could ask.

Is it safe to assume: I could connect the M-Audio Transit to copy audio off some of these minidiscs I have lying around, and as long as I had it connected I could drop in the other stuff I want to mix?

I appreciate the help!

Just so you know, NO PT software will run without hardware. It's a hustle. I understand that you only want to edit, but the hardware is just another way to make money. I recommend buying an mbox (you can find them used) just to give yourself some recording capability. The Transit is the cheapest option, but it has a little 1/8 plug and reduced sound quality. If you know you'll NEVER want to record analogue into PT, then go with the Transit.

Sorry but this is BS. Agreeably it´s not a high end but no less quality than a MBox Mini or Micro.

best
