what hardware is needed to get pro tools running?
I have a blue-and-white g3 300mhz and I'm trying to set up pro tools with a digi 001. I realize my computer is on the low end of things, but I was hoping I could upgrade it rather than buy a whole new machine. I have about 700 mb of ram already installed, and I figured if I bought a 600-800mhz G4 processor and 7200 rpm HD I ought to be in good shape. Is this reasonable? Do you have any suggestions as to specific makes and models of the hardware I need?

Re: what hardware is needed to get pro tools running?
yes, quite resonable. In fact you can get decent results depending on your needs with what you have if you stay with OS 9. Actually, since you have PCI graphics you'll need to stay with PT 5 in OS 9 anyway unless you don't mind really slow screen redraw. Do you already have the 001? I use the Mbox and I really like it. If you don't need more than 2 inputs at a time then it is even better than the 001. If you need more than that of course then you'll need the 001.

Add a dedicated 2nd HDD for audio.
Hope this is helpful. |
