Default Two Atto Drives in a chain wont work

Hello,
I have got two atto drives 8,5GB. One on its own works fine, but as soon as I hang them in a chain one crashes. This happens in a Protools Session as well as when I just copy data from one to the other.

So I don t think it is a Protools problem.

Please help

This may seem obvious but have you checked the SCSI ID's for each drive? Is it possible they're both set to the same ID number? (they must be set to different #'s). Also, have you checked your termination on the chain? Only the last drive on the chain should be terminated. If you have enabled termination on the first drive (or if you have no termination on the last drive) things won't work.

Good luck.

Thanks Maxx,

I have different IDs and Termination is on the last drive. This seems not to be the problem. Could there be a sync problem?

-Try a different cable which connects the two drives.

-Make sure only the last drive in the chain is terminated.

If problems persist:
-Reset the computer's PRAM. To perform this, hold down the command+option+R+P keys immediately after you boot the Mac (and hear the first chime). Continue to hold those keys down until you hear the Mac chime 3 times, release the keys and allow the computer to boot to the desktop.

-Reflash the ATTO card (I assume you are using the EPCI-DC). Use v1.63 for 2001 G4's...use v1.44 for use with all other computers.

Thanks people,

hope that works. Must also check the termination of the PCI. Maybe the internal side is not terminated correctly. I have no internal SCSI devices runnning.

DIGI: do you mean v1.63 or v1.44 of Protools express software?

It depends on what computer you have:

-Use v1.63 for 2001 G4's (Digital Audio and Quicksilver)

-Use v1.44 with all other Mac models.

-No need to panic...If you are using v1.44 without problems, by all means, continue to do so. This is still the only firmware version we have qualified at this time.

-There have been, however, isolated cases where ATTO EPCI-DC cards refuse to allow the computer to boot (black or grey screen) when installed in one of the later G4's (2001 models to be exact). Flashing the card with a later firmware seems to resolve the problem. Again, this does not happen with all systems (I do not know why).

-Firmware v1.64 is what I was referring to, I apologize for the misinformation.
