Default Digi 002 S/PDIF Input Problems

Hi,
I recently purchased a 002r and have been trying to get signal from the digital out on my Motif XS6 to the S/PDIF input on the 002 to no avail. When connected, the S/PDIF L and R show up in my audio tracks highlighted in gold which tells me that they are recognized and should be good to go. However, when selected as an input on an audio track there is no signal. I called Yamaha and they tell me it is a Pro Tools problem because the digital out on the Motif is sending signal at all times. I have read a bunch of the posts about other S/PDIF problems and have a few questions.

1.) I am using a livewire RCA S/PDIF cable. Is this the correct cable or do I need a coaxial cable?

2.) Do I need the optical source for the 002 to be set to ADAT or S/PDIF?
3.) Do I need to trash my preferences? And if so, how often and when?
4.) Do I need to restart my computer after trashing the prefs?
5.) Is there anything else in SETUP that I have to do?

I am using OSX 10.6.5 and have Pro Tools 8.0.4

If these questions aren't even valid, please let me know what it is I have to do. THANKKKSSSSSSS.

2) - Try S/PDIF

Are you "record enabling" the track to hear the audio?

It sounds like you're already using a coaxial cable.

Here's what you need to know about the optical source. When you set it to S/PDIF, the coaxial jacks are rendered inert. If you want to use the coaxial jacks, you must set the optical source to ADAT.

Set the Clock source to S/PDIF.

Go to the I/O setup and delete all input paths, then click the default button. Do the same for the outputs.

Assign S/PDIF as the input to a track. Record enable that track. Enjoy the sounds of the Motif.

BTW, make sure your PT session sampling rate is identical to the Motif. Otherwise, you'll be posting on here wondering why everything sounds pitch shifted when playing back with the internal clock.

Talking Re: Digi 002 S/PDIF Input Problems

Thanks a lot Jimmy. Got it workin' You know, I read a post from you very similar to the one you just wrote me and followed your steps and it didn't work. But I tried it again this morning and it did. I think it is possibly because I did it in the wrong order last time. I defaulted the Ins/Outs before I set the clock source to S/PDIF.

Glad you got it working. Helping you, having a cup of coffee and a BM have all conspired to make this a promising day.

I have a Yamaha Motif 6 Keyboard and I have the Digi 002 Rack with Pro Tools LE8. I am trying to get sound for the Optical port on the Motif. The Digi 002 has 2 ports I have no clue which one it must be in. Also once it is in the right one, what would be the Input/ Output setting or setup in Pro Tools.

Thanks!

Since you only have an optical port on the Motif, you have to use the optical port on the 002. To use that optical port as SPDIF, you need to go into Hardware Setup(in Pro Tools) and set Optical=SPDIF. Then set the clock source to OPTICAL.
