Record delay problem
I am mixing back to a stereo track using analog inputs 1 and 2 on a 192, and after printing 4 songs successfully, suddenly I discovered that the last two songs have one channel of the two delayed by about one millesecond or less. I first thought it was just a phase issue, but after sliding the track around, it appears that it was recorded delayed. Without changing any settings, I tried printing again, and everything seems to be okay now. Maybe it was solved by quitting PT and restarting.
Has anyone else seen this problem or have an idea what might cause it? I am just paranoid it might crop up again. here's my setup - HD2, G4 933, Sync I/O, (4) 192's w/ D/A expansion cards, clocked to Big Ben and external video

Re: Record delay problem
Well, it did crop up again.
I just had the same problem again on an identical setup (same computer, HD cards, and Sync I/O, but using different 192's and a different Big Ben). No one else has seen this situation? Very strange. Stereo track recorded with one side delayed. I did not have to shift one side as much as I did last time to fix it (the last time it was off by about 150 samples, this time it was around 40 samples). Impossible to predict and intermittant.

Re: Record delay problem
I can confirm this is happening to me too...only since 6.7cs7 (was 6.7 before, and fine)
which version of PT are you using? This happened on many occasions yesterday, and just happened again today. I'm trying to figure out if I should go back to 6.7, or try 6.7cs6. Anyone else seeing this? It's quite serious, as bugs go (especially since you can't predict when and by how much). Giles Reaves

Re: Record delay problem
Forgot to include the fact that I just upgraded OSX to 10.3.7 at the same time (from 10.3.5)

Re: Record delay problem
Sorry to keep buggin you, but (as I'm sure you know) this is a serious issue and I need to be clear...Did you mean PT version 6.7cs7? I don't think there IS a version 6.4cs7...
Thanks!

Re: Record delay problem
No worries, Giles. You're not bugging - the computer is!
I have 6.4 cs7. That is what it shows when I "get info" on the Pro Tools application. I am still wary of 6.7, so I am sticking with 6.4 for a while. Cheers, c

Re: Record delay problem
This problem is very strange. I just downgraded to 6.7 (from 6.7cs7) and have just noticed the problem again. This is a serious issue, especially when it happens to one channel of a stereo track. Now I'm second guessing everything I record.
Please keep me posted if you find anything...I'll do the same. Thanks.

Re: Record delay problem
Hi, a few questions about this..
Does the problem occur in the left or right channel only or have you seen it in both channels? Giles is your system also clocked externally? Is Auto Delay Compensation engaged when this occurs? In general what is the track count and sample rate you are working at? regards, Digidesign Technical Support |

Re: Record delay problem
From Mac-DAW:
> Giles.. did you have ADC enabled when this happened? Did you have a > plug-in > across the track with the offset? > > If you have a session file (without audio) which shows the offset > could you > email it to me and let me know, in samples, what the offset was. > > Thanks. > > Rail Thanks Rail, ADC was not enabled. In a few cases there was an offset between the left and right channel on a stereo track, with no plugins, so it seems to be related to the audio file (not the track). The exact offset is hard to determine, since I'm not even sure which track is correct! I'll be back in the studio tomorrow, what exactly do you need from me? Giles Reaves *************** Figured I'd consolidate the issue so it's only being fought on one front. Giles, just email me a session file (no audio) which displays this behaviour... Document for me how many samples offset there is between the left and right tracks (it doesn't matter which is right.. I'm curious about how many samples offset they are). Rail
