Default Re: Not Enough Free DSP?????

i've gotten the same 'not enough DSP' message when sessions start filling up (e.g. happened when we had 81 voices out of 96, a full empty DSP chip, etc.), the session was running @ 96kHz, duo core Mac Pro, running Tiger.

my qusetion is if it's a mixer problem, why doesn't the message simply state that? BTW we always use the dithered mixer.

i was told that in order to get more than 96 voices @ 96kHz, we would have to link up 2 X Macs. is this correct?

thank you all.

Question Re: Not Enough Free DSP?????

Have anybody seen that when you're changing project to another (closing previous and starting up other) the "DSP memory blocks" (system usage-window) is not resetting DSP perfectly. There is still active some DSP slots from previous project and than can reduce also DSP power usage !??! I'm not sure, but my opinion is that this should be resetting also.

I'm running PT8.0.1 with HD3, C24, 96i, 96OI, MacPro 8 ...

Default Re: Not Enough Free DSP?????

Just wanted to bounce this thread and get more info on this problem. I am running into this problem on nearly every internal mix I do at high sample rates with lots of tracks. I still have voices, DSP chips, and time slots available, but run up against the "DSP N/A" too often.

Any more details on what causes this or how to keep it from happening?

I can't change PB engines, since I need all 96 voices at 96K, unfortunately.

I too am struggling with this. I just want to know what I need to change to allow my mix to have more sends. I tried upping my voice count with more DSP chips and it didn't change a thing. Here is a picture of my system usage. It seems like I shouldn't be having this problem.

I keep getting, "The send could not be made active because there is not enough free DSP for the mixer."

How do you solve this?

Could this be related to the DSP caching?

What does "Time Slots Used" stand for in the System Usage Window? I can not figure out what that number stands for. I have added and taken away plug-ins and sends and my number stays the same.

EDIT: I need to mention that I have searched the manual and I only get this:

"TDM Time Slots Used Displays the total number
of TDM Time Slots available and the number of
TDM Time Slots currently used"

Really doesn't clear it up for me.

Could be a problem. I currently have been using DSP caching. I just disabled it. I'll see what that solves.

DSP caching is not causing the issue for me, since I am using PT 7.4
