Default SD II on a new G4?

Is it possible to run Sound Designer II on one of the new (since the SuperDrive) G4s?

That's what I thought. I installed the AMIII in my G4 733 and then I installed SDII from floppies (with a USB floppy installer). When I launch SDII I get the Hardware Setup Dialogue. AMIII is preselected under Select Card type. However, under cards to use the only choice is none and under track mapping the only choice is No Cards selected. When I leave the dialogue I get an alert that states: You need the proper Digidesign DSP card in your machine to run this program. After hours of zapping PRAM, dumping digi set up and even reinstalling a clean system I get the same results. Later I installed PTLe and it works fine. Is this the end of the line for me with SDII or is there something I can do? I thought it worked with G4s, is it only 1st generation G4s with three PCI slots?

Are you able to use it on your G$?

hmmm... I have had that happen but i was always able to find my cards in the dialog. Is it a rev QA or QC card? It is very important. rev Q will not work in the 100mhz+ bus machines.

I tried two different cards, both QE. They work fine in a Beige G3 266 but not the G4 733. Any ideas?

SDII was never tested on any G4, so it is unsupported. With that disclaimer out of the way...

What's the rev of the DigiSystem INIT installed in your System Folder/Extensions?

I tried both 3.4 and 3.4.2 and got the same results. I tried all the PCI slots, same results. Trashed the digisetup files each time. Aarrgh!

ckerian,

Are you using SDII on a G4? Today I took a last fling. Reinstalled everything from floppy, including the digi approved floppy drive and lastest PACE drivers. Same result. Is anyone running SDII on a G4 or is this really the end of the line for Sound Designer II?

SDII and a AMIII work fine on my G4/466 (5 slot)...well, I say fine...I can't select analog/digital inputs...tried starting up with 3.42 inits etc and the machine was very unhappy about that...but SDII and the card itself are working...

Simon,

What inits don't upset the machine? Tell me a bit more, please.
